I am a newbie to FAG but am enjoying the peaceful walks as I search for our family members. |
Because I was able to find a few of my ancestors through FAG in other states, I decided to return the favor. I am now searching the area cemeteries and doing photo requests and the response from others is very positive. I hope to continue whenever I am able to do so.
I find the tiny country cemeteries fascinating, mostly early pioneers who farmed and didn't travel far from their homes. It is very interesting to make the connection of these folks to the area and I hope to search them out as we travel around.
Please use my direct e-mail address when trying to contact me, I may go for long periods of time without checking my message board.

|Nancy (Cowley) Weise||RE: Dottie Strand|
Hello! I regret to inform you that my amazing grandmother Nancy Sue Cowley Weise passed away last night. I am Stacy Marie Skemp Hollmann, her only granddaughter. She has been passing on this amazing hobby to me and I promised her I would take it over and learning my way through it as I continue her legacy and finish her book. Please help me make this happen gofundme.com/nancyweise and be patient as I catch up and address her findagrave inbox! Please do contact me directly Stacy (Skemp) Hollmann (#48948236) or email@example.com for faster responses as findagrave helps me transfer her records to me. Thank you so much in advance for your help. I am here to help you too!
|Janet Muff||RE: Silance Lamb Beckwith Wilcox|
I'm sure her name was Silence, but thanks for realizing that the spelling on the stone is with an "a." I've found that if I diverge from the inscription, invariably someone comes along and duplicates the memorial. So I stick to what's written on the stone. I'm going to decline the edit you sent but wanted to acknowledge your message.
|Anne Philbrick||François Ruel|
Thanks for working on the Ruel family. I had to decline your edit because the Francois Ruel that you had was actually a conflation of two different François Ruels, both of whom happen to be in my family tree! The François Ruel who was born on 23 Jan 1815 in Saint Gervais was the son of Charles Pierre Ruel and Marie Louise Bernier. He married Marie Angélique Morin on 10 Aug 1841 in Saint Gervais. The couple initially raised their family in Saint Gervais, but moved to Chester, Arthabaska by 1861. That François was widowed in 1877 and continued to reside in Chester in 1901, after which I lose him.
The second François Ruel was also born in Saint Gervais, but on 16 Nov 1800. He was the son of François Ruel and Marie Madeleine Destroismaisons Picard. He married Marie Thérèse Plante on 15 Aug 1826 in Saint Charles. Most of their children were born in Saint Gervais. The last born in Canada appears to have been Vitaline, who was born in 1845, but baptized in 1846, a bit unusual for French Canadians at the time! At least one child was born in Wisconsin, Mosher "Moses". The second François appears to have died in 1864 in Wisconsin.
I took a look at Ancestry Family Trees today and found that you were not the only person to conflate the two François Ruels. I think it's a little tricky because both were born in Saint Gervais. Also, it's been extremely difficult tracking down the death record for the first François. And, it doesn't help that in the 1860 census, the second was made ten years younger! Of course, the biggest culprit is that awful Millennium File that Ancestry has introduced, apparently as a substitute for their old One World Tree. It jumbles together unreliable data from ancestry trees and then spits it out as though it were an actual record. It's a nightmare and I contacted Ancestry today to request that they discontinue the Millennium File. I won't hold my breath.
