I believe his wife was Sarah Hall (1778-1840).

RE: McCanns
No, but William is my great-grandfather and I'd really like to know. I know that he died in the 1930s because of census records, and I'm positive he stayed in Poughkeepsie until his death. I emailed St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie asking if any records of William exist, waiting for a reply.

RE: Note on Mary Hughes
Susan - I sent off to Pawling as you suggested - a nice response came back that they have no record of the death - also said the charge is up to $21 - but returned my payment.

I have it on my list to go to Sherman, CT with a request.

Thanks for your advice.

This is the number for the one that was the same as yours: # 45568152

I notice now, though, that on Find A Grave, there's an Armenia Union Cemetery and an Armenia Cemetery. I guess you shouldn't delete after all until it's determined which is the actual burial location. Or possibly if they are one and the same cemetery. My apologies for writing prematurely. Sincerely, Kathy

RE: Sherman burying ground, Pawling
Hi, I actually took all 3 photos of that stone. My friend Terry Akin (deceased) entered thousands of my photos from this area. I happened by that place several years later and noticed someone had done something to the stone so it is more legible so I took another photo. It is a bit hard to find. If you are heading north (from Brewster) it would be on your left on Rt. 22. As I recall there is an older farm/house kind of place with a couple of odd signs in the front yard. It is next to and kind of behind that old place. Harder to find when the trees are in bloom. Also I believe there is a dirt road that goes behind that house and memorial so look for a small dirt road off of Rt. 22 that would take you behind it. I will try to take a better look for you over the weekend if you don't find it before then. I am heading over that way to visit a friend. Hope this was helpful in some way. Cheers, karen

RE: Elijah Hedding
Hi Susan, thank you for your notes - looks like the transfer went fine, and thank you for doing that.

And thank you for the notes about the cemetery - I'll have to contact them to find out exactly where the memorial is. There is also a Methodist section there which may be a good bet.

There is a book called "The Life and Times of Elijah Hedding" which mentions the memorial but not a specific location in the cemetery.

Thanks again,

RE: Gladys Shook
I have 3200 names and about 2,000 obituaries for the book - it is quite the project, finally working on the finished index, and then will be hopefully putting the final touches on the book itself. Doing well other than that.

RE: Note on Mary Hughes
Thank you, Susan, for the info/advice on getting the death certificate from the Pawling Town Clerk. I had had Mary dying in Connecticut until you gave info on the 1892 NYS Census.

I have been a lurker on Find A Grave for about half a year - new responsibility having the Hughes/Cook clans. I'll do my best. I hope I can figure out how to make connections should that need arise.

I believe James Hughes (husband of Mary) died in Sherman, Connecticut - Mary is a widow in a U.S. census of Sherman after his death. I'll send the request form & postal office check/money order to the Sherman town clerk earliest.

Again, Thanks for your actions, info and advice.
