I very much appreciate the many people who have done such a good job here and who have been so very helpful to me in filling in bits and pieces of my family history.
Therefore, I specifically GRANT permission for anyone to use the photos I take for their PERSONAL USE, including posting to Ancestry.com or other genealogy sites. I DO NOT give permission for my photos to be sold or used for commercial purposes. I have taken photos at cemeteries where I was visiting, in addition to taking my own family. If I created a memorial for anyone in your family, I am happy to transfer management to you.
El Toro Memorial Park (Lake Forest, Orange County, CA) is near me so I can take photos for anyone who wants them there.
=================================== A good description of why photos of old gravestones are in the public domain (meaning anyone can use them freely) is here on a photo of a distant cousin of mine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Count_Rumford.jpg
The section at the bottom of the page is copied here:
LICENSING: This is a faithful photographic reproduction of an original two-dimensional work of art. The work of art itself is in the public domain for the following reason: ** This work is in the public domain in the United States because it was published before January 1, 1923. ** This work is also in the public domain in countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or less.
The official position taken by the Wikimedia Foundation is that "faithful reproductions of two-dimensional public domain works of art are public domain, and that claims to the contrary represent an assault on the very concept of a public domain". For details, see Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag.
This photographic reproduction is therefore also considered to be in the public domain. =================================== Barbara | |

 | Copyright Laws The key words here are "when the work was published." I don't have any pictures on find a grave that I've published before 1923. All my published gravestone photos on here have been taken in the last 10 years and are covered for 70 years from the date they were published. If you like I can site cases in which copyright laws have gone to court and have always held up. http://smallbusiness.findlaw.com/intellectual-property/determining-whether-a-work-is-in-the-public-domain.html | | | t. stephens
 | Taylor photo requests at Forest Lawn Ooops, I am so sorry about the previous message. I didn't mean to send it to you. I see that your people are in the mausoleum. They will not allow volunteers inside to take photos. Would you like a photo of the building itself? I do plan to at least try one day when get a chance. I would love to fulfill the requests here for those inside the mausoleum, but I am not too hopeful that they will let me in. Tracy | | | t. stephens
 | Forest Lawn West photo requests Hi, I have made several attempts to find the grave for your photo requests at Forest Lawn West. The office no longer gives out locations to photo volunteers, and this cemetery has easily over 25,000 graves. Although I do often find graves by hiking around randomly, finding one grave is like finding a needle in a haystack. Please call the office (704-392-2104) for a grave location and email me directly and I will be very happy to go get the photo. Thanks! Traysteph23@yahoo.com | | | Ellen Naliboff
 | Vannoy I made the change in dates. Because this is my d/l line, I am not transfering manaagement to you. Do you happen to belong to the line? Ellen | | | Ken Hutchinson

 | Annie Ragland Good morning. Am making the updates and there isn't a Howardsville showing up in Nelson County. There are two Howardsvilles I'm seeing in VA - Albemarle County and Loudoun County. Could either one of these counties be the one?Added by GerbLady on Mar 07, 2013 2:59 AM | | | | [View all messages...] |
