My wife and I have been married for the past 30 years. Both Shirley and I are retired, live in Santa Maria, CA in the beautiful and temperate Central Coast area, and we collect antique glassware from the early 1900's. I became aware of Find A Grave and wanted to volunteer. I appreciate how important it is to have a gravestone picture to help complete the story of your ancestors. I want to make that happen for many other people. I've also rediscovered that I like photography.|
If you want me to transfer a memorial to you, just be related to that person, and DON'T FORGET TO USE THE EDIT BUTTON, that's all. If I'm related, too, I may keep them. I'm not going to get uptight about transferring. Happy Volunteering.

You're very welcome. That is a quiet area, not too distant from a busy street but quite far from the gate. The section she is in is newly expanded and the lawns are well kept, though we are in a drought.

Steve, good to hear from you. I have traced my Burton family back to Abbeville District, SC. Joseph Burton and then Josiah Burton. Josiah's son John was born in SC but migrated to Walker County, Alabama about 1833-34. From then everyone of my Burton family was born and died in Walker County, Alabama. There is no connection to Texas that I am aware of.
If you see a fit in this let me know, will be glad to share any information....Craig Burton

All right, I'll do that shortly, thank you; I'm sorry for the trouble.

Hi, I saw a comment by you about the lack of cooperation from this cemetery with FindAGrave volunteers. We have a similar problem with a cemetery here in Baton Rouge. My solution was to pass the phone number of the cemetery office to family members wishing to receive photos. The family members can call the cemetery office and request the plot location... and if the manager wants to threaten with police action, I suspect he would have a huge mess on his hands. Family members have a legitimate right to ask for this information, and a lack of cooperation by the cemetery office with their reasonable request to locate a loved one's grave could provide quite a story for the local media. Just an idea... Best of luck!

Thanks for checking on his headstone for me. I have made a note in his file that he has no headstone. Thanks

Oh my gosh! I certainly appreciate your great efforts and time in trying to get into the San Luis Cemetery to take photos for all of us whom do not live there and whom want to have such information of our relatives and photos. That is so interesting, so to speak!..I have never heard of such an issue! Wow! I am at a loss for words! I do thank you so much for your time in writing to let me know of the problems you have had and for passing on how to notify San Luis Opispo Genealogical Society.

Thanks for your help with this one Steve. I appreciate everthing and will contact the society there and see what they can help me with.
I really do have to wonder what the problem is that San Luis Cemetery has with helping out. I live in Colorado and have never had any issues like what they present. I did have one cemetery tell me that they would charge $5.00 for each lookup but they were very friendly and when I bought a book from them, they gave me all my lookups for free.
Well, thanks again!
