I was born and raised in Tehama Co., in Northern California. I graduated from Red Bluff High School, Shasta College, and Chico State College. I retired from UC Davis in 2004 after almost 40 years service. I currently live in Carmichael, California with my beautiful wife of 7 years who humors and supports me in my genealogical passion.

My Zumalt family came to California from Missouri via Idaho in the 1920's. My mother's paternal Mohr family settled in the Cottonwood area in the 1880's, her maternal family (Stavig/Emerson/Gould) came from South Dakota in 1900 to settle in the Sharon Fruit Colony at Jelly's Ferry, Tehama Co.

My wife's paternal family (Lovelace/LeFever) came to the Sacramento/Folsom area from Missouri and all points East. Her maternal family names are Morrill, Johnston, and DeForest. The Johnstons and DeForests were among the earliest settlers in Lassen Co., California. Clinton DeForest, my wife's great great grandfather was a member of the John C. Fremont expeditions that explored the Western United States in the early 1840's.

I am currently working on California Zumalt/Zumwalts in Find A Grave. My theory is that almost all can be traced back to Andrew Zumwalt who immigrated to the US in 1737. Thus far I have been quite successful in proving my point. Any help with this project would be greatly appreciated.

I have been finding many of the photos that I have submitted to Find A Grave on various family trees on Ancestry.Com. I am honored to share these photos, but I would request that you add proper credit for the photos.

Thanks for the heads up Mike I have merged my 2 memorials for Isaac into one memorial. Two gravestones for the same guy within Old North Burying Ground.

Martin Burrell - I did work in Butte Co.
Welcome to Special Collections Department of the Meriam Library, a unique regional resource of written and pictorial materials which document the historical as well as the contemporary issues of the 12-county region known as "northeastern California".

Special Collections is composed of several "collections" which are housed together in this non-circulating area of the library because of rarity, source, condition or form. Access to the material is provided primarily through the Meriam Library's online Library Catalog. Use of these items is limited to the Special Collections reading room and are available for research by faculty, students, visiting scholars, and community members.

This is a surprising resource for anyone living in the area. I got envolved in Sunrise and nearby cemeteries. They need some good workers.
The socirty there is good and very active.

Please, correct the date of his death. Below, you will find the correct date and the place to get a copy of his death cert. If you walk in this building it will cost you as much as $ 0.25.
Or, it could be free if you make your own copy with your camera.

It is good to see that you have an interest in you forefathers. May it continue.
