Since February 2012 a group of us have been working on a project to photograph the entire Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, California. |
97% of the cemetery has been photographed
Only parts of Sections CA and CE need to be photographed.
We add new memorials as need be and add missing information.
We are also identifying and deleting memorials that are for different national cemeteries.
FAG members Samme Templin, Theresa Miller, Christine S., and Cindy S. are helping to post the photos.
FAG contributor Stewart Blandon completed Section 2E. Stewart also created an excel spreadsheet for the burials in the cemetery that has been vital for the project. Stewart and Kathleen Clemence have added plot information to memorials.
FAG contributor Kathleen Clemence completed Section R.
FAG contributor Christine and Winmar finished photographing and posting photos from Section MA.
Please contact me if you have a better photograph of a headstone for a memorial (e.g., with better lighting), and I will be happy to remove my photo from the memorial.

The family was there this afternoon and asked that we not photograph today. They are ok with returning another day to document the marker. I will return later this week to finish.

Tom Thanks for all your help. Now I got to figure this all out. I removed the request.
|Lleeah||RE: Mary Lewis|
You're very welcome, Tom, and thanks for such a nice message. Their stone faces exactly E-W with a bundle of evergreen trees to the south so it was in shadow during the best sun hours. My camera loves to saturate the shade colors on the snow and with the backlight I had to do some adjusting. I tried to catch it in a sliver of sun the next day, waited it out by taking tons of other photos in the section, but I only got mottled sun on Irvin's side as you can see in the overview photo. By then most of the snow had melted so they weren't any better as a whole. You can see Mary's side had 34th street in the background. The grave is tucked into the southwest corner of the cemetery on a little cul-de-sac. Tom, let me know if you'd like me to get any others at this cemetery-just message me with the memorial #. I don't care whether I get them on my request list or not. Good luck with your project!

Tom I just find it strange that Louis and Louise have the same date of birth and death on other documents that I have. It show them as husband and wife (Census records, draft registration, Social security,, ect. Also show both buried at the same cemetery. unless there is two louise. Does the VA have records who Louis is married to or if someone is buried with him? I guess I am asking for someone to make a visual of the grave stones.

My location was an estimate because her first husband is there.
Often wrong, and removed.

Tom, other then the information from his obituary, I have no other proof that he is buried in GGNC. Yes, obituaries can contain incorrect information. However, I have also come across Find A Grave memorials that contained VA headstone pictures that were in VA cemeteries but not listed in the VA Nationwide Gravesite Locator. Is possible that Robert Wayne Narruhn was missed or has not been entered in the VA system?

I have no "proof" that he is buried in GGNC - my source is his obituary. However, his parents, Gilbert & Isabel are buried there, so I find it curious that he is not found on the National Gravesite Locator.

I am trying to verify 3 graves. I added on the request that I believe their is a mix up on the Manns graves at Golden Gate
If you look at the headstone photo for Louise in Find A Grave, the plot number is engraved at the top of the marker Y 1326. If Y 1326 is the correct marker for Jere, then Louise is his wife, which also corresponds to the VA records. but I have done extensive research on my aunt family. the date of birth and death is correct for louise per other documents I have. Louis was her husband and he is buried at the same cemetery which has also the same information. I don't know Jere but was trying to see if someone would verify his plot number is the same as Louise The reason I am confuse that Find A Grave records show Louis and louise memorial one number apart. I understand the batch upload from the VA could of been on the same date. Since Louis and Louise would be next to each other on an alphabetical listing,

You're very welcome. And thank-you for your compliments. I like adding an area photo to help with the virtual feeling.
There are probably as many errors at Ft Rosecrans as well. CindyS 18484625 has been working on verifying these records but most of the memorials didn't have photos when she started and has done a ton of requests for photos. If I could get more photos posted there would be less volunteer photos requested... When I started posting photos Ft Rosecrans was at 26% complete. Now it's at 36% and I have 5641 volunteer photos. Eventually I'll get it finished. =]
