When I was a kid, my grandparents would take me with them to visit the cemeteries where relatives were buried. They would stand by a stone and talk about the person buried there. I wish I could remember those stories. This is a way to record stories I am now told. There is a story under every stone and cemeteries full of untold stories. I hope this will give people a chance to record a memory before it is forgotten, then lost. |
Recently, my husband got a Harley and we have combined our two interests. We ride the bike to various cemeteries that folks request photos from and have fun reading the old names and hunting for the requested gravesite. Sometimes just finding the cemetary is quite the challenge!
I do research on the following family lines: Lillpop, Askren, Green, Bell in Indiana. In Mississippi I follow the lines of Taylor, Ferguson, Scott and Holden.

Ref: Bowen's: The 3 Bowen's that I have listed in the cemetery, I have had a photo request for those 3 memorials since Aug 2010. The requests are still valid.

Patty: Thank you for trying to locate this tombstone. As I remember, it was on the edge of the cemetery, next to a wire fence. The marker itself is about 4 to 5 feet tall. It is about 3 feet wide at the bottom but slowly gets nearer as it goes to the top. The top kinds comes to a point. The others, I don't know anything about.
Again, thank you soooo much for your help.

IT HAS BEEN MY EXPERIENCE THAT IN THOSE OLDER CEMETERIES, THE HEADSTONES GET OVERGROWN WITH MOSS OR WEEDS AND HARD TO READ. IT WOULD HELP IF YOU COULD USE A WIRE BRUSH AND CLEAN THEM OFF SOME AND THEN IF YOU COULD TAKE TWO OR THREE PICTURES OF EACH AT DIFFERENT ANGLES OF THE OLDER BOWEN HEADSTONES WOULD BE FANTASTIC. THERE ARE ABOUT FIVE OF THEM. WORDS CAN'T EXPRESS HOW MUCH I APPRICIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO DO THIS FOR ME. MANY THANKS..:)))) DON'T KNOW WHEN I WILL EVER GET BACK THERE.

PATTYPOP: I HAVE FINELY FOUND THE CEMETERY THAT MY GREAT GREAT GRANDFATHER IS BURIED IN. IT IS THE CHULAHOMA MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH CEMETERY, BETWEEN CHULAHOMA AND HOLLY SPRINGS, MISSISSIPPI. I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND DON'T GET BACK IN THAT AREA VERY OFTEN. AS A CHILD MY FATHER TOOK MY BROTHER AND ME AND WE FOUND THAT CEMETERY AND FOUND THE HEAD STONE OF DR ROBERT BOWEN. I HAVE DONE EXTENSIVE RESEARCH INTO MY FAMILY LINE AND HAVE GONE BACK AS FAR AS POSSIBLE, 3,000 YEARS. NOW WHAT I AM TRYING TO DO IS GET PICTURES OF AS MANY HEAD STONES AS I CAN...EVEN TRYING TO OBTAIN BIRTH AND DEATH CERTIFICATES (IF POSSIBLE). I SEE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN TO THIS CEMETERY AND I WAS WONDERING IF YOU COULD GET A PICTURE OF DR ROBERT BOWEN'S HEADSTONE AS WELL AS DR CHRISTOPHER STRONG BOWEN, ELMIRA W RAINEY BOWEN AND ISABELLA MELVILLE POLK BOWEN AND POST THEM. ALL OF THESE PEOPLE ARE IN MY FAMILY LINE. I WOULD BE VERY APPRICIATIVE IF THIS COULD NE DONE. THANK YOU
Thanks so much for the transfer of my grandparents!

Please check the date of birth you show for Monte [Montie] Clayton Lambert. You show year 1909, but I read date on photo of marker as 1899. David N. Bishop
