I am researching my genealogy. My main surnames are Allender (Ireland), Allely (Northern Ireland), Bateman (England), Bostadtroen (Norway), Cain (Scotland), Carpenter, Crosby, Drage (England), Glomb, Hardy (England), Howie (Scotland), Hjelsvold (Norway), Hornburg (Germany), Ingebrigtsen (Norway), Karpicz, Kleivan (Norway), Leistad (Norway), Miles (England), Robinson (England), Sorte (Norway), Walace (Scotland) Wible. (And many more)|
I am also researching my husbands family. Surnames are known as PAGE, JOHNSON, SCHMIDT, SHEPARD, SINGLETON, STOCKTON, WILMOT. Which are his main branches.
Have taken the "Headstone" vacation, and I'm now adding onto the family tree.
My branches reach from Pennsylvania, Maryland, West "By God" Virginia, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan,Canada, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Norway, Prussia, Germany, Poland.? !
I enjoy taking photos, when I take a photo I generally take the whole family grouping. I do NOT do rubbings since it does ruin the stones. I do not disturb a stone to get a good picture. I take it in it's natural setting.
Since my work let's me travel to different states, I'm often not home in Iowa. During my days off or lay-off period I enjoy taking headstone photos.
At times it starts to get to you though. When you wander through a silent cemetery, looking at old stones, you often see cemeteries that are often in "rough" shape. The stones are not what you expect them to be. Often times I have found when searching for stones dating back from the mid 1800 to about 1920's extreme wear, fading stones, military stones with no flags or placards de-noting which service they were in.
Civil War era stones get to me the most for some reason. I've been to cemeteries with Union and Confederate soilders. It's interesting to see the difference between the grave markers.
I might be a little slow ((ok, I'm very slow)) in transferring photos to your account, but I will get to it.
I'm sorry it's taken such a long time to transfer your photos to you, but please send an email request and I'll get it done as soon as possible.

You are more than welcome. I love when there is a headstone in an older cemetery and one that is in decent shape and when other family members are found. Have a blessed day.
I finally found the lot for William. While I was looking for the second time there was a family member of another on the same lot visiting. I am sorry to let you know that William does not have a headstone.

There is no cooperation from the San Luis Cemetery with Find A Grave volunteers. However, according to the San Luis Obispo County Genealogical Society you can request a photo you are looking for by doing the following:
email to email@example.com
subject line San Luis Cemetery Headstone photo
They will send you the photo as an attachment to email. They took photos of the thousands of headstones they indexed in 2009.
As a reference here is the website for the index
