Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been involved with genealogy since Jan. 1965. The study of history has always been a passion with me which evolved into searching out the history of my own families and, also, led to my preoccupation with old cemeteries. After over 48 years of involvement with genealogy I no longer consider it a hobby - rather more of a compulsive passion.

Now that I am retired I can devote full time to my four favorite passions: gardening, genealogy, old cemeteries and developing my self sustaining homestead.

As for FindAGrave - If you want to use my grave photos on other web sites or your family tree, there is no need to ask. But please credit me. If you want a photo on additional Find A Grave memorials, such as when there is a double stone, please ask me to post those so I don't find my photos with your name on them. You can post only grave photos that you yourself took.

This permission to use my photos does not apply to personal or family photos. Please ask first about those.

I willingly accept corrections, transfers, and link requests, but PLEASE DO IT FROM THE MEMORIAL PAGE as it is so much easier. It gives me all the info I need.....along with your request, of course!

Would you please transfer ownership of the Thomas H. and Rebecca P. Dawkins memorials at McCallum Family Cemetery to me, Jerry Haywood?
Thomas and Rebecca are my wife's grandparents.

Old Lowder Cemetery
Hello John,

I received your note about the photo request for Henry Lowder # 103683297 at the Old Lowder Cemetery.

The notes, stories and rumors state that 1/2 of the old cemetery may now be covered by the road. They also mentioned that some of the old headstones may have been thrown down a nearby well. There were supposedly 15 to 20 graves located there at one time.

The Stanly County cemetery book mentions that it was last surveyed in 2008.

There are approx. gps co-ordinates located on the main memorial page.

I tried to use Google Earth to search the area, but I can't tell much from that.

Since there are no photo's of anything for the old cemetery, and it sounds like there's probably not much left (if anything?)... I figured if someone was out that way, maybe they could take a few minutes and double check the area .. to see if there's anything left at all?

I don't know if the old well still exists, or if there's an old main house, or if the current land owner knows anything about it? Are there a few signs of old graves? I don't know? ... I don't live in NC, or I'd go out and do it myself.

Thus the photo request.

He's my 4th Great Grandfather, so I suppose anything would be better than what I have now ... which is nothing.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

RE: William Norman English
I really don't know. I only know her name on census and family records is Martha James. But I will say that many of the families used nicknames that had no connection to the real name. My dad was Jim but his name was Matthew Daughtrey. Jim was better than BaBoy that he started with. Tha ks for your help!

William Norman English
William English is my Grandfather. His mother's name was Martha James Carr English, not Hattie Carr English. She may have been called "Hattie", I really don't know. Her father was James Arthur Carr 1819 - 1887.

RE: Rev Arthur Wimberly
The reason I said something is that there are people, who are buried in the Find A Grave's Yalaha Cemetery, with obits on their memorials stating Church of God In Faith Cemetery as the burial site. That leads one to believe that the 2 cemeteries are actually the same cemetery.

I would appreciate your prompt removal of my mother's picture and all other information about her. I imagine that you did this as a tribute, but as her daughter, I do not want this information on the Internet and neither would she.

Thank you in advance.

Downing Cemetery
No, I have not been there. I spent some time trying to figure out where my brother-in-law's family was. Maybe this map will work:
