Bio Photo Hi fellow grave-hunters. We aren't morbid, are we? No, we just want to find our relatives. I used to think that I didn't want to take up a piece of earth to place my bones and leave a marker to memorialize my life in birth and death years. But now that I'm doing family histories and research like my great Aunt Olive did for years, I'm reconsidering and wonder if 50 years from now someone may want to know where my bones are resting. hhhmmmm. My aunt spent most of her adult life conducting genealogy research and teaching it and I was very intrigued by her studies and the results. Now she's gone and I'm off on my own tangent doing genealogy and the great partner that goes with that is grave-hunting. I live on the Washington Olympic Peninsula in Port Townsend, a quaint little Victorian seaport and we have lovely old cemeteries here. I am willing to photograph anyone near me.
Blessings to you all.

RE: Orville Steele
I did check both cemeteries and did not find a marker for him in either. He may not have a marked grave.

From what I've found the names on the two cemeteries are more Historic. There was a movement awhile back to change the names but the commission chose not to do so.

In both cemeteries are Jewish, Non Denominational, Catholic and Protestant burials.

Orville Steele
Hi Julie, No, I'm not positive that he's buried there, my cousin told me he was buried in the Protestant cemetery. I thought his son was there too but you told me that you found him over in the Catholic cemetery. I don't know if you saw Orville there. I was surprised his son was in St. Ann's.
Thank you so much for your diligence.

RE: Charles F. Wolfe
Hi! Thanks for the additional information on the Family Group Sheets. I did notice a small mistake in that Charles' death is listed as being in "Chicago Cook Co. Michigan" instead of Illinois.

When I posted photos for everyone, and created memorials for almost everyone, in the Chicago Typographical Union sections at the cemetery, I never really thought that much about it. I never expected anyone to inquire about their burials. But of all of the sections that I have posted online at Elmwood Cemetery this section routinely receives more requests for information than any other. I created a virtual cemetery for all of the people in the section last year.

Do you have a photo of Charles?

RE: Edwin Wolfe
Hi! I find it best to access the Illinois Deaths and Stillborn Index on Ancestry.com. It comes up when you search for a name, but I believe you can also search just those records by refining your search.

The simple (and free) version of it is here:

http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases/home.html

Then scroll down to "Illinois Statewide Vital Records Databases." This simple version does not give the detail that you get on Ancestry. There are also Illinois Veteran records on the same web page.

Cook County, Illinois has a similar free website here (birth, death, and marriage):

http://www.cookcountygenealogy.com/Search.aspx

Again, it does not give as much detail as you get on Ancestry.

For both of them remember to search for alternate spellings as I did for Edwin Wolfe (Edward Wolf).

I hope this helps and that you have a great week!

Edwin Wolfe
Hi! There is also a memorial for Edwin Wolfe here:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=130666249

It shows the same date of death that I sent you below.

RE: Smiths
Hi! Could the information below be him? The "Race" is incorrect, but this could easily be an error.

My experience with both the Cook County, Illinois Death Index and Illinois Deaths & Stillbirths Index is that there are many errors. As I know almost nothing about the people that I add memorials for on Find A Grave, I take much of their information as correct. Experience with adding thousands of memorials for cemeteries in the Chicago area has taught me to be at least a little skeptical of some their data. Note the discrepancy in burial places between the two indexes.

I hope this pans out and helps you. If this is him, I would love to know that this information helped.

Thanks for your assistance in updating Charles Wolfe's memorial. Best wishes for a great day!

Ace

Hi! Thank you very much for getting back to me and for the excellent information as well as due diligence. It is very appreciated.

May I add some of what you wrote to me and add it to his memorial page?
