I am been searching my family roots for over twenty years and have found that we really are one big family. I especially enjoy cemetery research as years ago it was very common for all family members to be buried together. My latest project was Gros Cap Cemetery near St. Ignace in Mackinac County, Michigan where nearly all burials are inter-related to my family in some way. |
If we are related please email me as I am always happy to correspond and share with new family members. If you would like me to add/change/transfer information I would be happy to do this, please email at the contact below.

I am related to the Karnis's of Mackinac County, and I was wondering about this Francis you entered who is buried in Gros Cap Cemetery. Most of the Karnis's (full name was Pashakarnis) were buried in the Catholic Cemetery near Moran, with a couple exceptions. Is there any way for you to look up this baby's parents? Do you live there and have access to the records? I am really curious how he is related. Thanks! Michelle

I think this is Mary J Converse, the wife of Floyd Cain, John N Cain's brother. Floyd and Mary J Converse were married in 1932 in Sanilac County, Michigan, where Mary was raised by her parents, Ruth May Romans and Hartson Wilson Converse. I have found 2 marriage records for John Cain: 1st to Ruth Campbell, with whom he had a son, Thomas Allen Cain (died in Tennessee in 2014), and 2nd to Hilda Griffin, spelled "Griffen" in the marriage record.
Are you related to the Cain family? Here is Mary J's Social Security Death Record: Name: Mary J. Cain
48422 Croswell, Sanilac, Michigan, USA
BORN: 22 Jun 1912
Died: 8 Jan 1997
State (Year) SSN issued: Michigan (Before 1951)
While it's possible that Mary married her husband's brother, it's not probable. She lived her life in Sanilac County, and John N Cain lived and died in the southern part of Michigan. He married Ruth Campbell in Royal Oak, Oakland County, Michigan, and Hilda in Redford, Wayne County, Michigan, and died in Richfield, Roscommon County, Michigan in 1988.
