I have added these memorials, mostly from the historic cemeteries of Charleston to memorialize all the individuals who have contributed to Charleston's past.

In the event a photo of a headstone is not included, it generally means that the memorial information was taken from a cemetery transcription or death record. One of those who did the transcription was Elizabeth C. Curtis. Without her efforts cemeteries such as Trinity United Methodist and Old Third Central Presbyterian Cemetery records would not be included or available since neither of the above church exists today, including the cemetery and headstones. I just found out yesterday January 21, 2010 that internments of Old Third Central Presbyterian Church Cemetery have been moved to Riverview Memorial in Charleston. There are others who did transcriptions, but I am not aware who they are. If someone knows, I would be glad to acknowledge them in this profile.

Some of the headstones at the Circular Church were impossible to read, however the church had previously documented many of the graves sites by plot #'s. In those cases where I could not read the headstone I used the information from the church records found at the Charleston library to identify the headstones. I did list the plots #'s on the majority of the memorials.

A special thanks to the work of Clare Jervey published in 1906 with the transcription of St. Michael's. Her transcription allowed me to include much that was unreadable.

I have declined your edit for this memorial page as all the contemporaneous obituaries about his death state that death occurred at his residence, Needwood, near Harper's Ferry in Maryland.

Shaffer Grave
Hi! Thanks so much for submitting this information from the Magnolia Cemetery. I live in Charleston, SC and just recently found out that Frederick Shaffer is my 4th great-grandfather. I have thoroughly inspected the monument and also got a copy of the plot records which stated only 6 of the children were buried there. My question is where did you see/how do you know that he was born in Germany? At present I am still looking. Are you part of the family? Unless you keep records on all your work for others, I know you have no recollection... but who knows! Thanks!

RE: Corporal Wynne
If you look at the other names on the headstone, the family member made memorials.

RE: John Mazzanovich
Hi, John: Thanks for responding. I called Evergreens, as you suggested, but poor Jessica is not there. Since she died in 1945 when WWII was still ongoing, I suspect her ashes were simply disposed of. Too bad! The lady had outlived parents, husband, and only son. I appreciate your assistance. Natalie J. Woodall

ADM Frank D Giambattista
Classmate of the father of my oldest and closest friend, who like his father referred to the Admiral as "Giamby," which must have been his nickname among his classmates.
