Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone,
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist.
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
If you are related to or have corrections or additional information please feel free to contact me either through my email below, my website below or through the edit button on the memorial.
And THIS is the creed I hope to live by:
If you could see your ancestors
All Standing in a row,
Would you be proud of them?
Or, don't you really know?
Strange discoveries are made
In climbing family trees
And some of them, you know,
Do not particularly please.
If you could see you ancestors
All standing in a row
There might be some of them
You wouldn't care to know.
But, there's another question
Which requires a different view---
If you could meet your ancestors
Would they be proud of you?

|Stan Anderson||RE: W.A. Owensby|
Thanks for getting back with me. A friend bought a Civil War revolver that was carried by the father of W. A. Ownsby (spelled Owensby also) at an estate sale in Willbarger County. I wanted to make sure that the history goes with this old gun, and was trying to find W.A. Owensby's father. It's odd that both came from Tennessee and both settled in close to the same area in North Texas.
If it's like my family, we all came from Mississippi to Texas after the Civil War, and there was a bunch of us, settling all over East Texas.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I was doing some Civil War research and was wondering if WPK Owensby was the father of W.A. Ownsby? W.A. was from the Wilbarger County area of Texas.

Note: the Death Cert. photo added to listing. It states father was Thos. Starrett. I believe the father was Thos. Stribling Dobson and the mother Frances J. McGahey. He had a brother, Enoch Starrett Dobson. What do you think? Let me know, and I'll be glad to withdraw the photo if you wish.

Rita, this is a request to please delete the memorial for the above from the Ward Cemetery in Bedford County. This cemetery is very old and covered with briars, weeds, etc., and only has 4 graves - those of my Ward family. The above individual is listed as Edmond Webb and is buried in Cothran Cemetery in Rover, Bedford County, TN - See F.A.G. #113817403.
ALSO. Please delete the memorial for Mary Jane Webb in Ward Cemetery. She, too, is buried in Cothran Cemetery - See F.A.G. #113817418.
Looks like both the memorials in Cothran were created in 2013 after you did your work in 2010.
Thank you very much for any help you can give in helping setting the record straight. I will be happy to furnish further info if necessary.

Would you by any chance have any pictures of Reuben T or Mahulda Binion?
We are distant cousins. my great great grandfather was William D Ownby brother to Eli and his son Warren D Ownby my great grandfather. Do you have any information on if any of the brother's fought in the civil war besides William D. Ownby? I know he fought for the Union. My great grandfather and great grandmother were born in Grayson/Fannin county area.

I see that you have the tombstone of Martha A. Gardenhire.
Do you have any idea where her husband C.P. is buried?
LOVE your blog! I would love to add a link from the GC site to your blog, with your permission.

Thanks for the info. about the Owensby/Ownby surname spelling. Lots of census enumerators, ets. spelled names as they sounded, oftentimes incorrectly. I will add that to his memorial page.
When I saw your photograph, I realized that you were the one I had a great page on for Pilot Grove cemetery where you & your husband reset some stones.
I had thought to ask if you would provide updated burials for Vittitoe but didn't recall anything about where you live. I would love to have the info. that you got last year from the Vittitoe cemetery & any others in the area.
My goal this fall and early winter is to visit many of the GC cemeteries that my sister & I surveyed & photographed and update them as well.
You can send the info. to me via email or dropbox.
My personal email is firstname.lastname@example.org
I have a dropbox that I use for GC volunteers to drop cemetery photos, newspaper clippings, etc. in and then I just pull them out and put online. If you are interested in that, I can add you to my dropbox but would need your email for that.

I appreciate all the work you've done on Find A Grave for the Vittitoe Cemetery. You have put some gorgeous photographs online as well.
I am the webmaster for Grayson Co. TXGenWeb and am revising the Vittitoe Cem at this time - lack about 6 alphabet indexes.
W.K.P.'s surname is spelled differently from his children on his tombstone. If you know the reason for that, I will be glad to put it on the Grayson Co. website - his memorial page so that future researchers understand and there is documentation for the name change.
Also if you have biographies, family trees, etc. that you want to preserve online on the Grayson Co. site, please feel free to contact me at email@example.com
