|I have been a family history hobbyist for about 40 years, since college days. Interest in, and respect for my ancestors and their accomplishments are what inspire my research. I believe those of us privileged to inherit a good name, and a family legacy of achievement in face of adversity, have an obligation to pass that legacy -- and its positive example -- on to our own descendants. And I believe we do our descendants a personal favor in preserving the names, information, and faces of those who have gone before, so they may have an appreciation of their sturdy roots and become inspired by it.|
Family names I research include: Downen, Valentin, Klope, Moses White, Crocker, Keller (Southern IL); and Branstetter, Gilbert, Hargrove, Crider (Southern MO)

I am not a descendant of Charles. His wife, Margaret Ann Crider, is my 1st cousin 4 times removed.

Two things if you don't mind:
1. You show Josiah Gilbert as being buried in the Gilbert Family cemetery in Waterbury, Washington County, VT. How do you know this?
2. You show Truman Gilbert as being buried in the Odd Fellow Cemetery, Jefferson County, IL. That cemetery record from Jefferson County does not show him there. Nor do the Jefferson County records show him in an unmarked grave. What leads you to believe that he's bured in the Odd Fellows Cemetery?
Thanks much for you help with missing Gilberts! Also, great picture of Captain Eli Gale...outstanding stuff.

I know what you mean about seeing the graves. I was moved just by seeing my great grandfather's headstone too and I never met the man. I tried to do a little research on your family last night and was right in the middle of tracking down more of the kids and all the power went out in my neighborhood. It was 2 AM (I'm a night owl) so I thought I might as well go to bed and transfer them to you this morning. You can do more research and linking now. :)

You're welcome Robert. We probed all around the entire cemetery - it's not a big area - and found one fallen stone, but it was not Sarah Keller's. There is a very large base in the extreme southwest corner of the cemetery, that is lying on it's side, and I was certain that we'd find the top that matched it, but no luck. The base must be a 30 inch square cube, so the top would have been massive. Where did that thing go? We poked all around the overturned base and found nothing but soft soil. It's a mystery. It's possible that the base is part of Sarah's monument, since we found every other grave on the list, plus John W. Jones. But the top is missing, and without it we'll never know for sure who it belongs to. I wish I had photographed that huge base, and I may return and do that.

Can you possibly confirm the burial of Jacob Youngman in Jones Cemetery? Details in Email from Carolynn Keitzer on my contributor page. You seem to be the only possible source of info on this cemetery. Thanks

You are very welcome! I usually find great stories/photos for others while looking for something else and try to share them. Glad I could help! Kelly Jane O'Hara, Greer, SC
I have transferred the memorials that you requested. Yes, I am distantly related through the Johnson family.

My apologies in taking so long to get your grandmother's memorial transferred over to you. I have gotten very behind on my Find A Grave business due to illnesses and the job! She's all yours...God bless!

I have her buried at Looney Springs Cemetery. and not in Evergreen in Ava. She passed away in 1952. If this is the same person. I have a lot of family in the Ava area. And most of my family were from Jackson and Randolph Counties.
