Bio Photo Fifth generation Iowan. I enjoy taking time to research the family relationships behind each photo that I capture, using data from public records to add and suggest links and corrections where appropriate.

If you are related to a person whose memorial I have added, please do not hesitate to request a transfer. I am happy to have been able to honor your loved one's memory in some small way.

RE: Saint Joseph Cemetery
I am very glad to add GPS coordinates, they are so informative for people wanting to locate the graves. FindAGrave once told me that if the cemeteries are mapped to two different locations, then they will not consider them one cemetery. The two entrances are at different locations, but the sections are a single parcel, according to the County Assessors office. There is one mailing address, one office, one manager, one cemetery. Sounds like I am working up a new email to FindAGrave, haha. Is the same manager there? I last visited him about 3 years ago, and was concerned that he seemed like the only one who could dig around the office and find locations of graves. What you are doing there/here is invaluable.

Saint Joseph Cemetery
Thank you for the many great photos and SACs, most recently for Saint Joseph Cemetery. As you know, Saint Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City is a single cemetery with two sections. Until two or three years ago, there was a single listing for Saint Joseph Cemetery with thousands of memorials throughout cemetery. This worked well, as it actually is a single cemetery, and most obituaries do not state which section the burial is in. Then 2 or 3 years ago, someone created a Saint Joseph Cemetery New and renamed the original cemetery as Saint Joseph Cemetery Old, but they didn't sort through the thousands of existing memorials to separate the Old and New ones (which is understandable, such a huge undertaking). And now there are duplicate memorials created in the New section that already existed in the original cemetery, what a mess. It will be impossible to keep Old and New separate unless someone actively polices old and new memorials for decades to come. My hope is that FindAGrave will eventually merge the two sections back into one cemetery. So for now, I will add "New Section" to the plot information, so the section information will persist after the merge. Thank you for your wonderful work with FindAGrave, and if you have any other ideas how to resolve the Saint Joseph issue, I would be glad to hear them. Best wishes.

Hanson Memorials
Thank you for the final Hanson transfers. I have grown so close to all of them through old family correspondence, that I just needed them to be together now, as they were in life. From the bottom of my heart thank you very much.

Warm Regards,

Wlach & Cipera Transfers
Hello Heather, Thank you so much for the transfers of the Cipera's in Old St. Joe's, in Iowa City and the transfers of the Wlach Memorials in St. Peter and Paul north of Solon. I know what it is like when medical issues make havoc in your lives. I appreciate your letting me know. You have done very good work in the old cemeteries in Johnson County. A side note of interest Joseph Wlach in Sts. Peter and Paul was an early settler in the area and helped haul the limestone from near Ivanhoe Bridge on Highway 1 to build the 1st St. Peter and Paul church which actually sat where the cemetery is. The cemetery gate posts were made out of the stone from the 1st church. EH 48102166
