I live near Lake Ontario in NY. I grew up in the Washington DC suburbs. Both sides of my family lived in Georgetown and are Irish.On my father's side, the first of our family to arrive in America were 5 brothers named Sommerville from Gransha near Londonderry. William, the 3rd brother to arrive, came in 1773 at the age of 17. He was a soldier of the Revolution. I am attempting to connect the families of all 5 brothers. Settling originally in Penna., they soon moved to Va. and are traceable through the backwoods settlers of early Virginia. With the exception of William who saw enough adventure and privation during the war, they were always on the edge of expansion both west and south. They were well represented in the War of 1812, & both sides of the Civil War. Military service is a family hallmark.
