I am a Daughter of a Union Veteran of the Civil War. (DUVCW) My Great Great Grandfather, John Delong fought in the Civil War. I am unable to find his grave. He died in Spencerville, Ohio on June 17, 1895 at the age of 84. I volunteer at the Grand Rapids, Michigan Home for Veterans.|
I am an United States Air Force Veteran.
Also I am the secretary for the Grand Rapids Civil War Round Table. And I am a director on our newly formed group, Friends of Michigan Veterans' Homes. We raise money for the little extras for our Vets in the Homes.
It is hard for me to pass a cemetery without stopping. Lucky for me, my husband has the same interests.
Please if you request a transfer, please use the EDIT key. Also send me your ID number.

I have to admit I didn't closely at the actual stones; I was looking at the dates of death... which are both the same: June 24, 1870. I wonder if he happens to have two separate stones for some reason? I live in Ohio, so I can't go to the cemetery to figure out what is going on. I'll look a bit deeper and see if I can make sense of it from here. My apologies!!!
|Joe Breimayer||Thielke family members interred in Fairplains Cemetery|
I am researching the Reeves family members in Ionia and Kent counties and see that you manage Memorial 75879905 for Emma Thielke Reeves. I wonder if you or other contributors have any information about her marriage to Benjamin A. Reeves after the death of his first wife in 1968.
Emma and two of her children by her first husband George A. Orphan are identified in Benjamin Reeves' 1977 obituary as step-daughter Mrs. James (Adeline) Harris (1912-1984) and step-son Andrew G. Orphan (1920-1988 / Memorial 39660211).
Benjamin A Reeves (1889-1977) is interred with his first wife Vernice Musselman (1887-1968) in Otisco Cemetery, Ionia, MI (Memorials 6024621 and 6024624).
It appears that Emma is interred with her parents Henry and Helena Thielke in Fairplains Cemetery who are identified in the Michigan Marriages records of her 1910 marriage to George A. Orphan. George and Emma Orphan and their children Adeline and Andrew are identified in 1920 and 1930 U.S. Census records for Grand Rapids, but George A Orphan is no longer identified as in the family in the 1940 U.S. Census record.
After 1940 there is no further information about George A. Orphan, whether he died or they divorced and the marriage to Benjamin A. Reeves (other than his obituary). I would be interested to learn if anyone is researching this family.
