I started my family research journey in 2010 - quickly hitting the same information dead end walls all others encountered as no one had really researched the Warner family before. Also ran into dead ends in the McLean, Radel, Udell, Sayles Decker, Quick, Handy ...too many to list. My Family - as all families - have those dreaded dead ends where information just stops.
Quitting wasn't an option. So, I worked almost 24/7 7 days a week and spent over $4200 on death, birth and marriage certificates to confirm/verify the relatives and paid for numerous on-line ancestry on-line subscriptions from ancestry.com USA, ancestry.com International, Archives.com, too many to count - all adding up in expense but each yielding some vital bit of information that broke down those information dead ends. I poured over thousands of cemetery lists and contacted via email/phone/snail mail thousands of funeral homes and cemetery managers-anyone who might offer a lead or verify information. I advertised jobs and paid people in other states to get obituary copies in a library who didn't offer copy services and who didn't have that obituary posted anywhere on-line.
Although my ancestry tree is private due to having too many death certs on it...I posted a ton of information on FAG and sent out edit updates to thousands of other FAG member memorials to help get our family ancestry out.
It is 2013 now..and I still work every day at least 8 hours a day on family research on my ever expanding mostly fully researched 42,600 member tree.
I salute all the family researchers - it is hard tedious work to break though dead ends ....but so rewarding when the family ancestry members finally fit together.
15 November 2013/1630. I decided to stop sending any more edit updates. Memorial managers take my information as their own and post it without giving credit as to who gave it to them. I'm not talking a middle name or a small bit of info - but both parents, wive(s), full DOB/DOD's and sometimes whole families which is how I research. The families in my tree are between 30-600 members each all connected. In the 2 years I have been with FAG....I can count on one hand...the edit updates sent to me if my memorials were lacking in information and of those, the info given was minor. I am done being used by memorial managers who don't give credit as to who gave them the information on that memorial and who by omitting the name of the FAG member who gave it to them...claim that information as their own research. Everyone can do their own research.
NOTE: Grand parents are grandparents FOREVER. A blood line does NOT stop at 4 generations. I am also disgusted by non-relative memorial managers who refuse to transfer a memorial of a grandparent to a grandchild whether 1st/2nd or 5th grandparent. Blood lines don't stop. I can see if a minor relative spent a lot of time/effort/money and researched a relative and wanted to keep the memorial they did the research on...but only a person on a power trip would keep a NON-relative memorial they know nothing about and whose information came from others giving it to them but who they refuse to transfer out because it the grandparent is outside 4 generations. When it comes to grandparents...that is unforgivable.
I will still post photos/obits/newspaper clips, etc. I will still request photos. These things are marked with a name.
