Bio and Links
This is my way of honouring the dead who might otherwise be forgotten. It's always a thrill to be contacted by researchers who appreciate finding their missing family members. Where possible plot information is included to help family and friends locate their loved one. Marker or monument photos show what the grave looks like today, especially helpful for those people who are unable to visit in person. Sadly, sometimes the photos document vandalism.

You may LINK from your family tree (Ancestry or other) to a Find A Grave photo or page, but you may NOT copy and paste the photo or content. This includes screenshots.

Instructions for Ancestry: Click on the Find A Grave photo or memorial you want, and copy the URL from the address bar. On the profile page of the person, in the bottom right corner, click on the <+web link> button. Paste the URL into the box and add a caption. Click on the button; once you do that, the name of the caption will appear in the Web Links Box for you to quickly access at any time, without violating my copyright.

Due to my photos and bios being lifted and posted to other websites (Ancestry, for example) without permission and/or attribution, I have been forced to add a copyright notice to all of my photos. I may have missed a few, but consider them all copyrighted. When I find them, I absolutely do file a take-down notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and Ancestry for one has been (promptly!) removing my content when notified.

I no longer make out-of-guidelines transfers. As always, I am more than willing to make links and replace my bio with a better one. I do not link to dupes, nor to burials unknown. And please use the edit tab to Suggest A Correction!

The Royal BC Museum has posted many BC Archives BMD certificates online. has also has many BMD certificates. If the one you need is not on either website, I am willing to check the microfilms at the Nelson Municipal Library for you, although it might take some time for me to get there.

Baby Boy Baker added a gravesite with plot # in St Margaret's Cemetery in Fernie B.C. It is section D BLOC 5 Plot 4. Was the mothers name included? I think the mom is my Aunt. Thanks for all you do. H.T.

I wonder if you would transfer management of Edmond Elie Latulipe ( to me as he's my great-Grandfather. I'm not quite sure how a transfer is done... do I have to give you proof?

Hi, In Nelson Memorial, I was wondering if have come across Marion R. H. Applewhaite(1910-2008) or John H.A. Applewhaite 1910-1982 both cremated in Victoria but not burried there. I'm not saying they are in Nelson, just asking? Thanks.

We are involved in a project to make memorials for all servicemen & women in Veterans Cemetery ((aka God's Acre) in Esquimalt; one of the memorials we have just created is for John Trafford Joule Find A Grave # 153724472. In researching we find he is the son of James Alfred Joule Find A Grave # 132945698. We have linked the 2. We also note that you have the following on your bio section:

"FYI Under the Canadian Protection of Personal Information and Electronic
Documents Act (PIPEDA), "a cemetery headstone and any information on it are
considered to be in the public domain. Therefore, information obtained from these
sources are considered as "open" information which may be released. This is true
regardless of whether or not the people mentioned are living or dead or how long
they have been dead."

It is a common misconception that PIPEDA has application to cemeteries, headstones, etc. In fact it has no application whatever to the subject. PIPEDA is Federal legislation, applicable to matters within the Federal sphere, and cemeteries and grave markers etc are 100% within Provincial jurisdiction. While the quotation is mostly correct, it is in fact not true that "whether or not the people mentioned are living or dead or how long they have been dead" is public information.

In fact the Information and Privacy Commissioner of British Columbia has determined that under some circumstances, burial information that is within the last 20 years and the identities of living persons are not in the public domain (although I personally believe that a challenge to public release of information found on grave markers or even in published obituaries [which are by and large not copyrighted, and even if they are, non-profit research provides an exception such that one may, I believe, post such information on FindAGrave]would fail.

RE: Marion Hogaboam-111257842
Hello, yes I am a direct relative of Marion Janet Tully Hogaboam, she is my Mother and I would appreciate looking after her memorial. I appreciate all that you do and feel that this is a great work, it allows folks to find relatives and information that may not be available elsewhere. Thank you again for your help. Margaret
