Genealogy is my addiction. My own Gates line was disconnected between Michigan and New York for several years. My hope is that by doing this I can help others connect back into theses lines, dissolving those often hard-hit brick walls. Where I can, I will add tidbits, obit notices, or general information on individuals. Please feel free to email me with questions, additions, or changes. |
Also, please feel free to use my photos posted here, permission granted.

The photo does say "Wife of Robert", but I do not think I still have a larger image. Should I find it, I'll send it to you.

Hi Natalie - I've posted all the photos that I took up there this year - so I guess I didn't. that's not to say he might not be there - if the stone was in the shadows, I might have skipped it. Sorry, I'm not local and don't expect to be up there until next summer.

I will try to look up Ida within the next cople of weeks or so. I'll let you know.
I am sorry,
I meant to send you an e-mail, not this long note on here. I just got so excited when I seen the Steadman name.

Thank you for responding to my "virtual flower" that I left on the Find A Grave. I am sorry that it took me so long to get back to you, it seems like I haven't had a minute of free time since March.
We know nothing about the STEADMAN line except the following.
My husband is looking for any info. on family of FILANCY STEADMAN, that married Edmond HOPKINS,
possibly born in 1817 New York, died prior to 1863 Forest Twsp., Genesee Co., Mich.
They had 3 children that I know of,
James b:1839 New York, marr: Frances "Agnes" Wakefield
Mary Ann b: 1841 New York, marr: Leander R Allen (has large family)
Edmond Horace b: 1843 New York, marr: Hannah C Chapman (this is my husbands line, the CHAPMAN line has a lot of fascinating history already done by family in Ohio)
I have the Hopkins traced way back, just can't get a break on Filancy,
Spelling for her name is always a little different (Filantha, Falanca, and so on), but her granddaughter is named Flora Filancy Hopkins, so I presume that is the spelling.
I do know there is STEDMAN/STEADMAN buried at Oak Hill Cem., in Owosso, Mich. (I think I posted them on Find A Grave).
I would be willing to take any help you can offer on this surname.
|Carole St Clair Grant||Otto Matz|
Hi there, sorry for the delay in responding to you. I don't check my findagrave front page very often.
My cousin Otto Matz is the son of Julius Matz and Johanna Jourdan. Johanna was my grandmother's sister.
Julius Herman Matz is the son of Herman Matz and Louise Krueger. Julius was born in Germany. I would probably guess that he had a brother named Otto, and it is a good possibility that the entire family was here in the Chicago area.
I have not researched the Matz family at any great depth.
My cousin Otto married Stella Galik in Chicago and they had a daughter named Arlene. Arlene married Walter Krug in Lyons Illinois and they had a daughter Sandra. That's all I know about them right now.
