Retired military. Genealogy is a passion but I slow down when football season arrives. Willing to help others as much as possible. I focus on my Stewart roots (West Virginia and Pennsylvania) and the Marshall family on my mother's side (Virginia).|
I have photo documented local cemeteries in my area of James City County, Charles City County, Williamsburg and York County, VA. Have also worked on cemeteries in Surry, Sussex, Isle of Wight and Southampton Counties, VA and Hampton National Cemetery in Hampton, VA and Richmond National Cemetery in Richmond, VA. Recently completed Mount Calvary Cemetery in Richmond and will be moving on to Riverview and Oakwood Cemeteries, both in Richmond.
I have also photo documented several cemeteries in the Hilton Head Island, SC, Kitty Hawk (Dare County), NC, Leavenworth, KS and Bellevue (Douglas and Sarpy counties), Nebraska areas while on vacation.
If I have added a memorial for one of your family members just let me know your Find A Grave member number and I will transfer it to you.

Hello, Ron...yes, it certainly could be an error since family cemeteries can be a little confusing. There is no death certificate on Ancestry...frankly I can't recall now how I chose the cemetery designation. I will be happy to relocate him next to his family members and since you are a descendant would you like a transfer of this memorial into your keeping?

There is only one more Marshall cemetery in the book and it is on Route 619 and no burials since 1944.

I was very happy to try & fulfill the request, although was saddened the grave was unmarked. I know there is a level of comfort in having that visualization. Thank you for your kind words & for all you contribute to the F-A-G community. The amount of work you've done here is amazing & hopefully you know how much it is appreciated by the family members gifted by your efforts.

|Sherry L. Marshall||RE: Susannah Samuel Marshall|
I thought I had written to you but I don't see my message. First I would like to say I am so very sorry how long it took me to get back to you. I've been dealing with what they use to call "a lingering illness". I've seen that more times than just about anything else. My medication makes things difficult for me to think clearly so I was waiting to write to you when my mind felt clearer, but that didn't happen so I really hope this reply makes sense.
I am the 2x great granddaughter of Samuel Marshall b.1858 Philadelphia PA - d.? The only record I could find of this Samuel was the 1900 North Union Twp Census of Fayette County PA this census lists Samuel living with his wife and kids
Susan Hiles Hawk b. 1844 Dunbar PA d. 1920
Charles William (ended up living in Wilkinsburg PA
George Washington Marshall b. 4 May 1883 - 3 Dec 1954 George was my great grandfather. I believe I am in the Marshall group that is descended from John Marshall chief justice.
Please let me know of any information that may be helpful. Samuel is my brick wall. Apparently Samuel Marshall was a pretty popular name in the mid 1800s. I would love to be able to find out what happened to him and where he is hurried. I was told by another researcher that Samuel left Susan and kids (not sure when) to live on a riverboat in Pittsburgh. I haven't been able to verify this info yet so please let me know if you know or see anything come up.
You are so welcome. Perhaps you might know if the Fladings of Wheeling were all related? I am not related however connected via some memorials and when it came to Sebilla Flading Heldeffer, I found her immigration document coming in 1859 with mother Margaret Flading. On Sebilla (various spellings found) Flading's marriage record to John Heldeffer in 1871 it was with consent of her mother "Margaretha" ? Flading, difficult to read. Then Margaret lives with the Heldeffers in Wheeling on 1880 census. She was listed as age 61 born Hesse/Germany but disappears after that record. Do you know of any connection to your wife's Flading family? just thought I'd share the info and ask if you have any info on Margaret. thanks!
|L. K. Perry||RE: Wife of Lewis F. Marshall|
It says her mother's name was Sarah A. SIMPKINS. I haven't seen the original record, and the index lists no father's name. Do you have a way to look at the original record (or a microfilm of it)?
The 1910 census lists Lewis and Bessie with 2 sons, Lee (age 6) and Benjamin (age 4).
I have not seen a death certificate for Lee. However, the 1969 death certificate for Benjamin Marshall of Chantilly VA says he was born in Carroll County, Virginia, on 11 March 1903, the son of Louis [sic] MARSHALL and Bessie Frances FERRELL. He had never married, and the informant was a cousin, Jesse Marshall. He died on 24 September 1969 and was buried in Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon VA (certificate 69-027977).
Are you related?
