With much of my immediate family growing in and around the Washington D.C area for generations, I was never overly curious about family history. After a friend who was more interested than I found photos of relatives gravesites in other states who were born during the time of Andrew Jackson I was amazed. Even a marker for my grandmother's unnamed infant son which I had seen in home movies had been photographed by someone.|
I am most familiar with DC area's, Holy Rood, Arlington Cemetery, Oak Hill and Cedar Hill Cemetery on Pennsylvania Avenue. I have taken many photos for my own enjoyment and for friends over the years, but realize others are often not so near.

All photos are appreciated! I understand about the light problem. It has happened to me many times.
If you come across any Strobel/Stroble graves at Mt. Olivet, please keep me in mind. Joseph and Ann or the German equivalent. Ann is the older sister of Anna Dorothea Roder Repetti.
Your help is appreciated.

Thank you for transferring the memorial for Mary. All of your photos and information for this family is greatly appreciated. It proves that much of the family information that was passed down to my mother was full of errors. Having the tombstone photos really helps.

WOW! I am amazed and thrilled to find out about Emma's family. I had some of this, but no photos and thank you for posting all of this. I've sent some corrections on dates for Emma's sons. Her father was my 3rd great-granduncle.

The staff on the grounds don't want you to have evidence against them like when they mow over and break the ground stones or bury them.
Most of my relatives stones are either missing or underground. I complained many times only have it fall on deaf ears. They don't care if they can't make money from it.
|William Boswell||RE: Loughran|
I think I already manage the Loughrans that belong to me. There are others that you photographed, but I have no proof that they are related. Thanks for the offer.
I know about the unfriendly staff at Mt. Olivet. I used to go out there a lot in the early 2000's when the staff was more cooperative and even gave me records at no charge. Now they can't be bothered.
If I show up and there's a funeral going on, I just sit at the front gate waiting for it to end. If there are too many funerals then I'd go home. The last time I was there was in 2009 and they didn't seem to care if I took photos or video. They're lucky anybody visits that cemetery since it's in a dangerous neighborhood. I heard gunshots the last time I was there.

Thank you for adding the photo to this and other memorials at Mount Olivet Cemetery in DC. Your photos look better than the ones I took back in 1999.

I see you posted a photo of Anton Lorenzen's marker (#51984096)--thank you. Was it at Arlington? When I called for its location there, they said they had no record of him. Or is it somewhere else? Great photo, thanks for all you do as a Find A Grave volunteer.
