Thank you for finding and photographing my family in Columbia Gardens. We live in Upstate New York and do not get to Washington very often. This part of my family had no children and we are the last of their relatives. Thank you again.

Clarence H. Welch - Columbia Gardens
His second wife was listed in a census as Jean Opal Welch. Have not found her grave. Alma's grounds for divorce were dissertation, so maybe he did it again. Or maybe she died and was buried in Kansas. Both children were Alma's.

Clarence and Alma were married 28 June 1915, in Washington, DC. They divorced in Arlington, 14 August 1928. Sometime after that date Clarence remarried.

RE: James Herrington
Actually I was clued into this by a photo request at Glenwood where there was no memorial.

The requestor's ancestor was a veteran - and he told me that Veterans Affairs will provide a memorial for free for any veteran.

Here's an explanatory PDF:

Looks like all I would have to do is fill out a form.

RE: Glenwood
Glad to provide!

I made 4 new memorials for surname Hansen in Section F, Lot 091 if you know any relationships with the others feel free to send edits.

Have a great day!

Here's the link to the interment records showing all the folks in the lot:

I'll photograph all the markers I can find.

Enjoy this beautiful day!

RE: Photos & dates
You are very welcome for the photos. I appreciate all the serious research you've done on these people!

Re: dates: I always check the dates, not least of all to be sure it's the right person. But the stones can be wrong, too. Just recently, in attempting to resolve conflicting reports about how my grandmother's first husband died, we discovered we, and the gravestone!, all had his name wrong. It was apparently the name he used, but it wasn't his legal name. So gravestones are just one piece in what can be a complicated puzzle.

Thanks for all your efforts. You add a lot to Find-a-Grave!

Jessie MacDonnell
Her death registration gave the information that she had been cremated at Hatley. Here is the link to the death registration:

However yesterday the staff at Hatley reported there is no record of either a cremation nor a burial for her.

The Hatley staff recommended contacting the funeral director identified on the death registration as Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra St., Victoria, BC V8T 4B8 Ph: 250-388-5155

Given that you are a relative Sands might give you more information. It may well be that her cremated remains were interred with her husband at Veterans' Cemetery (but without a marker) as you had first thought.

Let us know if Sands has a different burial location for her - we'd be glad to see if we can find the marker.

Jacob Kolb
Sorry to bear so much bad news today! But I went to Section A, Lot 175 to look for the grave of Jacob Kolb. Unfortunately his grave is marked, as are the graves of two other family members beside him. I could post a photo showing another grave with the site of his just beyond it, but it's only a patch of grass. I'll leave it up to you to decide, just let me know.
