Bio and Links
Bio Photo These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They may or may not sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead.

In the end, never let yourself become complacent to those who have went before us. Always make time to remember the sacrifices that have been made for us by our Ancestors.

Never forget the Men and Women of our Armed Forces who have guarded our Constitution with their lives, some giving all to secure our rights, liberties and freedoms.

Remember the 100's of thousands soldiers who never came home, many who lie in a unmarked graves, never found or a foreign cemetery as that would indeed make those lives,, lost in vein... Reach out,, honor a Veteran.

Thank you very much for the photos, and if the GPS coordinates came from you, thank you for those too. The cemetery looks beautiful.

It has to be a difficult time to be in France, even if you are not in Paris. I hope you and yours are safe and sound.

I appreciate getting a photo of Lloyd Higley's marker. He was a Veteran, surprised that he does not have a Military marker. In Ohio the Military markers are usually placed within 60 days.

I have no info on LDS ward, missionary stuff, etc. My friend Candy Kammerman does these searches for me. My nephews did the posthumous thingy. I believe he was not of the church when he was alive. Neither was wife Jennie.

I can send you an invite to my Ancestry tree, so you can what I have on Robert.

also, my Mormon connection:

I was able to check on religious ordinances for Robert. From what I found, it does not appear the Robert joined the LDS Church while he was alive. The same appears to apply to his wife Jennie. However, it appears that relatives have done those ordinances posthumously for them.

I saw the NARA record for a Schafer, John, Utah, with much coding that is unusual, his serial #06521295 is correct, but he's not from Maine, or divorced, unless I missed something. He's definitely from Denmark. I have found similar coding on others in the NARA record. I'm not impressed with the big merge.

Why does Robert have two military records?

I have not found a monument request, maybe you can help. I've run out of steam with him.

Laurits? where does that come from?

Thanks for your reply and compliment!

Robert immigrated to Utah where he enlisted the first year he was there. Also, he was 11th Ordinance, and it is "18th" on the monument.

So - is it the right person? I have a Mormon connection who is working on Robert for me. Finding the monument request would be invaluable.

Today I will research Robert's doppelganger - the guy with the same birth/death dates that lived in California.

Stay tuned ...

I posted a rather long bio for Robert using the edit function for his memorial. He immigrated from Denmark to Utah, and joined the Army for life. He was at Pearl Harbor. I do not know why his monument has "California" on it. It is the correct person, dates and marriage are correct. So I'm still searching for the answer to that one. No info in AAD, even though I have his serial number. He was my step-mother's husband. I'm working on linking all of the family members - there are LOTS of them. Thanks for your time.
