Years ago, before my children had even started school, I inherited a wonderful genealogy written in French by a nun, Marie Céline Ruel. She was my great-grandmother's first cousin. They were very close, more like sisters, because their mothers were sisters and their fathers were brothers. Céline had traced the Ruel and Goulet families back to the time of arrival of the original ancestors in Canada in the early 1600's. This tome is a fabulous resource that has allowed me to use my French, which had admittedly been neglected since my high school days. While French was my father's first language, he rarely used it at home.

In 2008, eight years after I received the 1942 "Généalogie de la Famille Goulet-Ruel", I decided it was time to try my hand at genealogy. Years ago, a business partner of mine had mentioned his strong interest in the hobby. However, it wasn't until I started my family tree that I realized how addictive genealogy could be. I loved to play detective! A year and a half later, I became a contributor to Find A Grave. Initially, I concentrated on members of my family tree. However, over time that has evolved such that I also photograph headstones and create memorials for people who are not related to me. Along the way, I have discovered fascinating people in my family tree, including diplomats, knights, artists, actors, writers, and politicians. My tree includes the artist Marc Chagall, author H Rider Haggard, and the premier of Spain Juan Negrin, as well as other intriguing characters.

I am available to assist anyone who has questions about translation of French genealogy records. I am particularly interested in the Ruel families of Québec, New Hampshire, and Maine, as well as the Faherty families of New Jersey who immigrated from County Galway, and can help people researching those families. With regard to transfer of memorials, please see the guidelines posted by Find A Grave, although I am willing to consider transfer of memorials that fall out of those guidelines. Please use the "Edit" button to suggest corrections, additions, or links, or to request transfers. You will receive the courtesy of a reply and a thank you, and I will be happy to include all pertinent, accurate information in my memorials. Please note, however, that I generally avoid transcribing newspaper obituaries from after January 1923, due to copyright issues.

Genealogists help to preserve family history. One of the primary reasons that I started my family tree was to be able to share family history with my children and extended family. With Find A Grave and other genealogy sites, we can share our history with a much larger family. And we make lovely friends and discover living family along the way.

St Bernard of Dorchester County Quebec
Hello
I noticed you had added some memorials on the St Bernard Cemetery in Dorchester County Quebec.

Did you also start the identification page for the cemetery? I found the latitude/longitude information of 46.494170,-71.143220 which if you started the cemetery page can be added by the owner of that page...and that will create a map to help others find it.

I will be entering all the deaths from 1844 to 1940 from the Drouin records, and then someone I know just visited the cemetery and took photos of all of the existing memorials which I will add for her.

We are trying to document all the cemeteries in that region on Find a Grave.

You have sent an edit to change the maiden name. If you are correct then the linked parent may be wrong. You are changing information submitted by another Find A Grave contributor. I need more info before I can accept your request. Perhaps you need to contact the person who submitted the original info. His name is listed on the memorial.

I have found that out as well over the years. I used to add children to families when they don't automatically come up when saving information and I ended up with many many people doubled in my records. Now I am very careful about who I add to my tree and make sure they are not in my tree. I guess I spent probably 3 days going through my tree of then about 4,500 people and deleting all the duplicates. Now I am up to almost 10,000 so have to be really careful about adding. I wish states like Michigan would have more birth, marriage and death records since that's where the majority of my family records are. I have a lot in WI as well and their seem to release there sooner than MI. I certainly understand their reasons but once a person is deceased, why not release the record. The majority of the LeClair stuff from trees that I have added is from the LeClair family trees online so I assume they would have correct information but who knows. The lack of a source document in these cases is not that important to me since they are just one line of my great aunt's family. Your welcome.

All the information I have is from census and other trees, however, her headstone says 1875 for year of birth. I looked at 3 different census and there are 3 different years 1874, 1876 and 1878. Newberry is in Pentland Township in Luce County.
I have found headstones to have incorrect dates for both birth and death according to death certificates. It's really hard to know without a source document and the census seem to be unreliable.

I don't have a source document for the dates of birth and death so they must have come from other trees online in Ancestry.com. When I add a Find A Grave to my records, I feel compelled to update the dates if I have it so that is why I submitted the edit.

Wondering where you got the name June. Every record I have found for her from censuses to marriage, to births of children always has her name as Susie. Do you have a birth record that gives her name as June?

No, I have not found his obit. He died before brothers William & Louis based on their obits.
