Bio Photo As a teacher and with a BA in history, genealogy became a natural outflow for learning the past. Learning about it with direct connections of ancestors have made many historical events become more personal and alive. This has even impacted my students as they do a year long project of their ancestry. My wife, son, and I live in historical New England and enjoy the ability to visit many of the United States places of historical beginnings as well as some of the oldest cemeteries. The photo you see is of my grandfather in the 1920's.

Edward/Edwin Moody
I changed the name on the memorial to Edward/Edwin and attached the following bio. Let me know if you would like anything worded differently:

Gray Village Cemetery records indicate this burial as Edwin W Moody, as reflected in the Maine death certificate. Buried in Gray, ME 10 Aug 1922.

Researcher Peter suggests that this burial is actually EDWARD W Moody, twin brother to Edwin Scott Moody (#110827131) who died 8 May 1941 and is buried in the Ripon Cemetery, Ripon, California.

Online documentation appears to support this position, most notably the 30 Oct 1847 date of birth on the Maine death certificate for Edwin W Moody and the California death index entry for Edwin Scott Moody with a date of birth as 30 Oct 1846 in Maine.

The 1850 Durham, Maine census shows twins Edward & Edwin in the home of their parents Charles T. & Nancy [Barrett] and siblings Sarah, Lucinda, George, and Susan.

Boston Massachusetts records show that Edward Moody, son of Charles T. & Nancy [Barrett] Moody m. Elizabeth A. [Woods] Coombs 30 Jul 1893.

Edwin... Again
Took a second look at the death certificate, which has a matching date of birth to your Edwin... so, perhaps it is a case of mistaken identity after all. Will need to find a second record to be sure, but am certainly more convinced now. Thanks.

RE: EDWIN W MOODY
All of that may be true, but does not explain my dilemma. The note you sent me was for EDWIN W MOODY in Gray Village Cemetery, a man by the same name as your twin in California.

So, this is NOT your Edwin W's twin, EDWARD. Is seems to be one of the OTHER Edwin Moody individuals found in the 1850 census.

A clear case of "names the same"?

Edwin W Moody
Hi, Peter,

You sent me a suggestion re: Edwin W Moody (#120493705) at Gray Village Cemetery that doesn't quite seem to fit. Could you take another look? I added some detail to Edwin's memorial, including a State of Maine death record to clarify.

Also, the 1850 census shows at least 3 different Edwin Moody children in Maine who were born in about 1848. I'm not sure your either of your twins are connected to THIS Edwin W. Moody. Let me know your thoughts.

Daniel Harris
Oh... wait... the edit you sent says he was b. 30 Nov 1786 while the document you added says he was b. 12 Feb 1787. Looks like Polly Waterhouse was b. 30 Nov. 1786.

No worries; I'll change it to the 12 Feb 1787 date.

Thanks again!
