Bio and Links
I am a lifelong resident of the Sullivan County, New York area. I came across this site doing genealogy research. I started out just adding memorials for my own family members. Soon I was photographing cemeteries and entering the gravestone information on findagrave. I also like to find old obituaries in historical newspapers and add those people to findagrave.

I try to link family members together when I can. I will gladly make a listing for someone if you know, or I can find out where the deceased is buried. I am willing to take gravestone pictures in nearby cemeteries.

Among the more interesting members of my family tree listed on this site are Rev. John Robinson, the Pastor of the Pilgrims, my 9th great grandfather; Barnabas Butts, known as "Barney the Bear Hunter", my 3rd great granduncle; Lucius Robinson, Governor of New York from 1877 to 1880, my 3rd cousin 4X removed; and John Cleveland Robinson,
Civil War Union Brigadier General and Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient, my 3rd cousin 5X removed.
I apologize for any mistakes in my listings. Many of my listing are made from information found in old cemetery transcriptions, old obituaries, town records, census records, or off the gravestones themselves. Please contact me through the "Edit" link, and "Suggest a Correction", and I will fix any mistakes or add additional information to any of the bios. You may also leave a public message.

RE: Thanks!
Thanks Peter! Right now it is just a bit here and there trying to find missing stones. Soon I think it is time to phtograph section by section, so overwhelming though. And I have over 100 edits outstanding, and I am losing track if I did an edit or not when I glance at a memorial. Time to be systematic again!! If anyone thinks this is a easy job, they should talk to us!! I am saddened when I go to a cemetery and you can't read stones, or they are toppled over. That history is often gone or buried. That is why I am so particular to make it all correct when I see a stone. So hopefully future generations won't have to question who is where and what did that say? Anyhow, Thanks!!

Charles Kenneth Unkenholz

The obit for him was dated August 28, 1931 which was a Friday. They say he died on Monday. It might be safe to assume that was the 24th of August then.

RE: Susan Smith Van Vactor
Thank you Peter! Going back to what we had mentioned that the Van's can get confusing - even in 1908 when this obit was printed it has daughter Ida married to John Van Vactor when he was actually Van Orden! The writer (or printer) was in 'Vactor' mode! Even then the Van's were getting mixed up :D I appreciate your adding the obit Peter :) (now - where was I? Oh - trying to figure out how Sarah became Susan or vice versa!) Have fun! ~Berta

RE: Ella Fraser Van Vactor
This is wonderful Peter. Thank you! I especially appreciate how the pioneers of both Ella and her husband were mentioned. The person who wrote this obit in 1923 KNEW how valuable the information would be in the future! I love these treasures you share with us. Have a terrific day Peter! ~Berta

Van Vactor and their 'clan' :)
Peter! No no no... I too mixed up the Van Orden gang and Pat Johanson pointed me in the right directon (especially confusing when one of my Van Vactors married a Van Orden - yikes!) I SO appreciate all of the twigs on my branches you have input here! They are absolute treasures :) I mentioned to Pat that some days there is just NOT enough coffee. Hope to share a mug (or pot) with you sometime! Thank you so much Peter :) -- Berta
