Bio and Links
Bio Photo Transfers: I will transfer ownership to direct descendants within four generations - the same as Find A Grave guidelines. Otherwise, I'm happy to add to memorials and make links, just click on the "Edit" tab on the top right of the memorial, then click on "Suggest a correction or provide additional information". Be sure to give me the other person's ID number when requesting links.

One line of my ancestors (CROSE) lived in Tippecanoe Co., IN in the 1820s. Some of their cousins lived in the next county to the south, Boone, and some south of that in Hendricks Co. I live in northern Hendricks Co., and am taking photos mostly in Boone and Hendricks, including the older, more difficult to read stones. Hopefully, these photographs will be around longer than the headstones. Many are on the verge of not being readable - even with the sun at a good angle and using tricks to bring out the text.

Since I've been doing genealogy research for a number of years, I can see a real benefit in seeing headstones, rather than relying on a transcription. To me, the important thing is to be able to read the inscription (names & dates, child of ...), but not really the verse below it. It's also important to know who is buried next to who. I'll mention that if I notice a connection.

Cemeteries that are completed - meaning that I photographed everything and have posted all that was readable. Other transcriptions may have more names.
Beck - Bethel (Boone Co.) - Bethel (52nd St Indy) - Browns Wonder - Jones -
Lowry -Macedonia - Mintonye - Mt Union -
Mt. Zion - North Branch - Oak Hill (Sect 1-30, 34N & 34S) - Pleasant Hill (Indy) -
Pleasant View (Dover) - Poplar Grove - Prebster - Old Union Church - Richland - Robison - St. Malachy West - Salem -
Sparks - Taylor - Trotter (I can only find 33 of the 64 markers) - Weaver - Zionsville

I currently use a 10M Canon Powershot camera which will take pictures at 3648 x 2736 pixels. Normally I reset the resolution to 2272 x 1704 and then on the computer, especially with worn headstones, I turn up the contrast 20-30%, and lower the brightness 5-10% and keep the compression at 98 to 99%. When I started posting for Find a Grave, the photo file size limit was 250 KB, then 350, 500, 750, 2000 3000 and now 8000 KB. I use photo editing software that I downloaded for free - it's much better than what Canon or Olympus gives you with their camera. With Photoscape I know the file size before I save the file.

Niederman and Schalk Memorials
Thanks Marc for all the help over the years and more recently. I am trying to memorialize and link the Schalk and Niederman family. Toward that end It would be helpful if you would be willing to transfer the management of Maria Margaretha Niederman (104969092) and her parents John Schalk (72968737) and Anna Dorothea Schorr Schalk (72968839).
Your contributios to our family history is terrific and very much appreciated.
Warm regards,
Betsy

I am a descendant of Edward Doty (Mayflower). Are you also a descendant of Edward Doty.
I have not applied to Mayflower Society yet. I understand for the Society that the Doty line is the most difficult of all the Mayflower lines to prove.

104968710 Mary Elizabeth Schwab
Hi Marc-
Thank you for the significant contribution to our family history and the hunt for our ancestors. It means a lot.
You have been very helpful in the past and now I have another request. I would like to manage Mary Schwab's memorial. She is my 2nd great grandmother and it would mean a lot if I could manage her memorial.
Warm regards,
Betsy #48720498

Graham Singletary's Memorial
Graham was my maternal uncle and I'm curious how you linked his memorial in Delaware to my grandparents, Ezekiel and Hattie in another cemetery and state. I have other relatives I'd like to connect with their parents.

RE: George K. Buck
Thanks so much Mark for getting right back to me. I was on ancestry and realized several families had researched George and had him in a couple of families. You have put me on the right path and I will hopefully tie him in tomorrow with the correct family.

Thanks again for taking these pictures and making our family feel a little closer. Pandora

George K. Buck
Marc

I am researching George K. Buck. He is my grandmother, Amy Grace Buck's brother. I have found 2 Find A GRAVE sites for him, the headstones look the same. Your memorial# 22576718 is at Saint Marys Catholic Cemetery. The other memorial# 49760734 is at Highland Park Cemetery. Both are located in Pittsburg, Crawford, Kansas. Your was added Oct 31, 2007 and the other was added Mar 15, 2010 by Anonymous.

I am in Inkom, Idaho and I feel like this is the same person. Are these cemeterys the same? Any help you can give me on this would be appreciated. My name is Pandora Wheat, my email is pmwheat@yahoo.com.

Thank you for all the work you are doing for Find A Grave, it is an awesome task. Pandora Wheat

Maria Wing
Hi Marc,

Are you related to Maria Wing (Oxford Cemetery, Butler Co. OH)? I'm going to be adding a memorial for Robert M. Crane (d. 1891, Shawneetown, Gallatin Co., IL) and linking Maria as his mother. According to Robert's pension file, he was raised by his stepfather Zimri Wing. So either Maria was married to a Crane before marrying Wing, or she had a child out of wedlock. Since either scenario could be a bit of a shock, I thought I'd forewarn you. I'll be putting on the memorial page a screenshot of a statement from Laura Wing Penny, daughter of Zimri and Maria, stating that Robert was raised in the family. I can send the full pension file to anyone interested.

As a side note, several lines on both my Mom and Dad's sides run through northern Hendricks County and the surrounding area-- Slavens, Porter, Utterback, Cook, Crane, Wells, Crabb, Hornaday...
