Bio and Links
Born and raised in Selmer, McNairy County, Tennessee. Graduated from the University of Tennessee-Martin in 1981 with a B.S. in Business. Researching Curtis, Chambers, Cooke, Hargett, Harrell, McDearman, Pipkin in West TN and Reedy, Scribner/(Scrivner), Payne, Pierce, Moore in North Mississippi.

My interest in genealogy started as a child with a small handmade book of the Curtis side of the family dating to 1813 that my grandfather had, he left it to my father and I became hooked. While most of my memorials are of my family, any outside of that I will be glad to transfer. It is my firm viewpoint is family should be with family.

Currently (Aug/15 forward) working on cemeteries in Lauderdale County, Tennessee which is the home of my Curtis, Hargett, McDearman lines. To date have entered over 2500 memorials to this county.

I'm in the healthcare field as an Executive Director of a nursing facility for 34 years; currently in central Florida. Married for 31 years with two daughters and a granddaughter.

W. T. Maclin #46528608
If I go to the trouble of "keying" and sending to you a "biographical sketch" from, "Portrait and Biographical Record of Randolph, Jackson, Perry and Monroe Counties, Illinois" by the Biographical Publishing Company, published 1894, concerning W. T. Maclin, will you consider using the content to expand his FAGrave memorial? I realize the document is not a primary source and therefore, you may be hesitant to rely on it. Laura Duncan

Ashport Cemetery, Lauderdale County, TN
I think it's admirable that you are adding Lauderdale County burial to findagrave. However, there is some cemetery information that someone who does not live in Lauderdale County can know.
Recently when I checked before adding a memorial, I noticed that Bethlehem Cemetery is listed as another name for Ashport Cemetery. This is not true. The Ashport Cemetery is an African American Cemetery located about 6 miles west of Ripley at the corner of Hwy 19 and Becton William Rd. Bethlehem Cemetery is located east of the town of Henning several miles south of Ripley. Both are very old cemeteries but still active. Bethlehem Cemetery is divided with one side having white burials and the other side African American burials. The community of Ashport never had a cemetery because Ashport is located in Mississippi River bottom land and it floods. Since the flood waters can cover the land for several weeks, burial remains would come out of the ground. So people who lived in Ashport and Gold Dust area buried their people in cemeteries located in "the hills" where it did not flood. However, ASHPORT CEMETERY is also known as the BLUFF CEMETERY, and obituaries for people buried there will have either Ashport or Bluff Cemetery as burial place. I know the church located across the road from the Ashport/Bluff Cemetery is named Bethlehem Gold Dust Baptist Church, but it was moved from Ashport bottom just a few years ago. I am over 70 years old and lived very near this cemetery when I was a child and there was not a church there then. The African American Gold Dust Church moved out of the "Bottom" after the white Ashport Baptist Church located just down the road moved to higher ground. It does not have a cemetery either. I've checked death certificates of the graves listed in Ashport Cemetery on findagrave and found that several have burial place as Bethlehem. I also noticed that residence of deceased was listed as Henning.
