Bio Photo (John C. Carter)

(Will be spending part of the summer in southwestern Maine).

Happy to photograph at any cemetery in the Tampa Bay, FL area! (or in the Lakes Region of SW Maine).

Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.

I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... nearly 42 years ago!

I am a 27-yr member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve--affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.

(Click on my profile pic above to read the story of the Civil War ancestor with whose headstone I'm posing).

I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.

Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.

Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!

Thanks to the creators of this site for doing such a great job!

Thank you so much for the picture! I am doing genealogy research and the Hamilton's are related to me on my Mother's side of the family. Plus the tombstone gave me more dates and a spouse's name to use. Again, thank you for your kindness!

Spaceman Spiff,
Thank you sooo very much for the great photo you took of Laurence Piper's stone. This is my brother-in-law's family and I know he'll be surprised and appreciative of this as well! Thanks again!

RE: Irving Price at Gouldtown Cemetery
This record from Familysearch.org (free) solves the problem:
Irving G Price
United States Social Security Death Index
Born: 4 Mar 1891
Died: 10 Aug 1998 Salem, New jersey

So the last 2 digits were switched on the stone.

As there are no less than 2417 entries on Find A Grave (via Ancestry.com) with birthdate 1820 (+/-10 yrs) and deathdate 1999 (+/-10 yrs) I stopped checking against Soc Sec Index etc, else I will never get through them. And then the next lot 1840 +/-10 and 1999 +/-10 etc.........

Please upload other photos a.s.a.p. so that we can check the entries against the dates on the stones.
That is IF the stones have no errors!!!

Success,
RJB

That was such an interesting article! Do you know where he was wounded- which battle? I live near five Virginia Civil War battlefields....

RE: Photo request for Maureen Torrey
Thank you so much, John.

Theresa was the wife of my grand uncle. I know she as living in Saint Petersburg (where Maureen and Chuck lived), but I didn't know that the cemetery was only for veterans and their spouses. I don't believe that Theresa has a memorial page yet. I manage her husband's (Frank Golden), so I was hoping to make a memorial for her. I don't know where she would be.

Thank you for taking a picture of Maureen and Chuck's gravestone.

Sincerely,

S.R.F.
