I was born and raised in Houston County. My father, Tommie Johnson is buried at Wesley Chapel. I still miss him. I would like to thank everyone who has left a flower on his memorial. He was a wonderful man. |
I am also the ggggrandaughter of Captain Samuel Harrison Bowen, and also James Jennings. Who both served our Country when the Tea Party first sprang into action. I am a member of The Houston County Historical Commission located in the Courthouse Annex in Crockett. I am in the office on Monday.
I believe very strongly in cemetery preservation. Cemeteries in most cases are the only history of those that came before us. Like rare books in a library once it's lost it's lost forever. My only intention is to create a HISTORICAL RECORDING of those who are "Gone, but not Forgotten" before their tombstones are lost forever. This is copied from a fellow graver: "Get out and photograph memorials while they are still readable, preserve those memories that are quickly fading."
For those who wonder about such things, when the number of memorials managed is higher than the number of memorials created, this is due to a few members who decided to transfer their memorials to multiple Findagrave contributors .... . and I am honored to be one of the contributors trusted to look after some of those memorials.
FROM THE FAQS:
How do I clean a headstone or grave marker?
Unless you are related to the interred on the headstone in question, DO NOT do anything to the headstone.
FROM THE FAQS: If you want to add from an obituary: Newspapers represent a very good source of information as a public record. What we ask is that those who index and memorialize the deceased from newspapers and other 3rd party accounts do so with full respect of copyright, refrain from adding information about living people, and respond generously to the family of the deceased.
FROM THE FAQS: Last Name as you would find it on the tombstone, if the interred had more than one marriage or other possible spellings please place this information in the bio and use the family links. Do not include honorary or other suffixes in the Last Name field.
I respectfully request that death certificates not be posted on any memorials I manage.
I am happy to share ANYTHING that I post. Just check to be sure a family picture did not come from someone else's Collection. The source of the photograph will be posted under the photo.I have no crazy rules, My pictures are your pictures. Feel free to beg, borrow, steal with no intent to return. I take pictures of headstones out of kindness ... not for my ego or for the "numbers."
PLEASE do not post my name and number; my ego just doesn't need that and your bio will just look sloppy. My greatest reward is a beautifully formatted memorial.
Be kind to one another because - One day we will all be, 'just a name' etched in stone. "Nothing is ended until it is Forgotten."
This is the day the Lord hath made. I will rejoice and be glad in it! (and not spend the whole day working on Findagrave!)

Good Afternoon Deana, I have a lot of mom's stuff. I will look through it over the next week and see if I can find it.

Thanks for correction on Murdock Baker.
|Deana (Pruett) Mills||Nancy Sue Franklin, Walling, Gunnels, Bundrick|
I saw where you had done Nancy's memorial page, she posted about a photo she had of my great-grandmother, Vilottie Jane Bennett Manning. She was looking for family to give the picture to....I found her too late. If any of her family reads this and might happen to have that picture, I would love to have it. Please contact me at email@example.com
|Carrick Maxwell||Harrisburg - Jackson Cemetery|
I went to the Harrisburg - Jackson Cemetery off of Lawndale near Broadway in Houston. Only saw about four gravestones but found that someone adjacent to the cemetery took the fence down by their house and hauled in dump truckloads of debris there. I have reported it to the city, will follow up on it.

Thanks Carol for the info. I deleted mine. Could someone make it clearer on Find A Grave which cemetery is which. There are two listed called Pennington.
