|Prompted by my father to personally find all family cemeteries in the Monroe Co., TN, area, I learned how addictive "walking on the ground your ancestors walked on" is! An awakening was finding the horrific conditions some cemeteries are in, including those managed by TVA. Finding the Find-a-Grave website will enable me to more readily show the world what can happen when no one cares. I am a UT graduate with 3 grown children. Recently, I became aware of 3 African American Cemeteries in Lonsdale - the middle of the city of Knoxville, TN. Research done by Robert McGinnis proved it to encompass 24 acres, most of which became a dumping ground, was overgrown, and was a location for unspeakable criminal activity. Sheriff J. J. Jones has undertaken the clearing of the worst - Southern Chain and Longview. I am attempting to capture every stone possible and preserve the memories of these special people before they again become victims and disappear. Some photos are very bad, and I apologize. Due to the terrain conditions, I was very limited. My research priorities are Moser, Nichols, Nuchols, Davis, Cook, Clemens, Hurst, and the families involved in the Howard-McGhee-Jones Feud in TN.|

Howdy Tommy - thanks and I agree with you since the d/c is the "official" document via the county coroner. I've learned that the stone smiths have a problem after they go "oops"!

Yes sir. Thanks.

TOMMY-- Sorry, did not mean to be a pain. Did not think about someone (you) having the correct dates. Not related. The wife and I took 3369 photos at Magnolia cemetery, so you may see some info as I go through these photos and try my best to update the cemetery. I just look at the headstones and move on, so please accept my apologies. I think this will take awhile. Still on the "B's".
Ran into Shirley Clowney today at the Blount Historical society, we discussed Hardin cemetery a bit. She has a man, JC, that is going to get over there soon with a mower and I volunteered to help with weed-wacker and rakes. I am retired federal employee so have a bit of time to invest in helping with the cemeteries.

He was a cousin. I appreciate you letting me have this memorial. I can add more info and connections. Thanks again.

Hi - I saw that you left a flower and bio notes on Mr. Snyder's Find A Grave page. Are you related? I have a short article about his railroad career in a 1955 locomotive engineering magazine. If you would like a copy, let me know. Regards, Phyllis

Thanks. I would be proud to manage that memorial.

The Lauderback and Louderback markers are in different sections of the cemetery (Crestview). I did not see a metal marker. I suspect one or both markers were added a long time after her actual burial, probably by family members. I will revisit the cemetery and see if I can find where they are. I have a pretty good idea where they are within +/- 100 feet based on looking at the surrounding photos. I will email you a map in a couple of days when I find them.
|Tommy Wood||RE: Gun shot victims|
Wow, they killed their women-folk too. That's just cruel or maybe bad shooting. Thanks for sharing this story. This would be an interesting cemetery to visit.

I have looked at a lot of death records that you have referenced. Two things of interest. First, I'm shocked at how many men (and one woman) were killed by gunshot or stab wounds. It must have been a wild time in early Knoxville. Second, I've noted that AR Wheeler is listed as the funeral home on most death records. He and his brother are buried in Crestview!!! They were businessmen of some repute.
