RE: yiddish post card
If he moved to Israel, it is possible that some of the words I was trying to figure out are Hebrew based, rather than Yiddish. I will review them again.

RE: yiddish post card
Yes, I did. There are some letters missing on the right margin, but we tried to figure it out.

It seems to be discussing sewing, possibly sewing lessons. Some of the words are probably someone's name.

Anther problem is that many people tend to mix in words of their other language into their conversation, which makes it a little harder to decipher.

This is what I figured out so far. I was going to ask someone else if some of the other words sound familiar to them.

To my dear sister and to my beloved brother-in-law, I can write that I am sewing by ? (circled word is probably a name) . I can already sew a little. ? (circled word looks like a name--Michal Frumala) I ?(cut off ) also to write that it is ? the ? We are making a leather ?

I will let you know if we get any further.

RE: Hebrew translation
The lion & 10 commandment design on the stone is not necessarily traditional for headstones, but is a motif found more often in synagogues.

Each of the biblical 12 Tribes of Israel had their own symbol. The symbol of the tribe of Yehuda (Juda) was a lion. It was a very populous tribe, and many people can trace their ancestry back to king David, who was a descendant of Juda.

I will be glad to help with the translations if they are clear enough to read.

RE: Hebrew translation
Hi, Diane,

You can send me a link any time, and I will be glad to do Hebrew translations on stones.

The traditional Jewish headstones write the person's Jewish name and his/her father's name in Hebrew, as well as mention if they were a Kohein or Levi.

For people doing family tree, this gives an extra generation back, as well as making it easier to link family members.

RE: Patrick Troy
You're very welcome. If it is possible he is buried in another family's plot, let me know and I'll look for it.
