Bio Photo Hello! I'm a graver, an artist, baseball entusiast, and an active participator of American Civil War living history presentations.
Find-A-Grave is an excellent resource for determining one's heritage, family tree, and genealogy. Sometimes the smallest thread can lead to a successful path in defining someone's lineage instead of a dead end. (pun intended)

Orphan Brigade
Hi my name is Patty I was wondering if you could help me locate a member of my moms Bradley family from Fleming Co Ky. His name was William O. Bradley and he was a member of the Orphan Brigade. All i know about him was that he was from Daviess Ky and was discharged 1-25-1863. I have been trying to find any information on him but so far no luck. Thank you for any information you might have on him or where he is buried at. Thank you Patty#47517041

George W. Howarth - Spring Grove Cemetery
Am curious to know if you happen to have the published volumes called Roll of Honor published by the GPC. I'm looking for the entry that appears in Volume XVIII pg. 309. I have volume XXVI-XVII that covers this George W. Howarth's death and burial record but my husband has not been able to obtain 2 volumes to the collection, which happens to be the volume above. Darn. I would like to know what vol. 18:309 has to say about George W. Howarth and what cemetery it is referencing. Can you help?

Anyway, for the entry in XXVI-XXVII that I have it says that George W. Howarth was a private in Co. H, 22nd Michigan Infantry who died July 24th, 1865 and is buried in Lot C, grave 36 in Spring Grove.

If this man is the one I am looking for, he was born Nov. 29, 1843 in Orion, Oakland, Michigan and is the son of John Howarth born in Hatfield Parish, Yorkshire England who died in Orion, Oakland, Michigan and Loretta Margaret Clark born in Damascus, Wayne, Pennsylvania and died in Orion, Oakland, Michigan. Both of these individuals are buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland co, MI and George is listed on their tombstone as one of their children. There is a memorial on Find A Grave for George William Howarth in that Cemetery, which might mean it is just a memorial rather than actual burial.

Is there anyway you can contact Spring Grove to determine whether or not George's remains were removed, and if so, is there a record that they were transported to the Evergreen Cemetery?

Lt. Don Wilt
Memorial# 21752299
Greetings K. Guy,

I am in the process of researching my 3rd Great-grandfather, James Tracey born about 1800 in Pennsylvania, died unknown date or location. This James would have been age 61+ at the beginning of the Civil War. I do not think he would have been allowed to enlist let alone be listed in the 1863 draft.

Reviewing family trees on, I see that almost all of the trees list James as having passed away 24 Jun 1862 at Camp Dennison, Hamilton County, Ohio and transferred to the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Hamilton CO, OH.

This is a most interesting Civil War Soldier????

I have found the Headstone order card on

He is also found in the U.S., Burial Registers, Military Posts and National Cemeteries, 1862-1960

However, what is strange, I can find no service record for this soldier. He is not listed on the American Civil War Research Database under either spelling Tracy or Tracey. He is not listed in the Company I (Eye) 52 OVI I do not find him on or the NPA Soldiers and Sailors System.

Do you have any clues as to what the age of this soldier was when he died?

Thanks for your help with this family research.

Nathaniel Beedy headstone photo
Thank you for the headstone photo of Nathaniel Beedy, Find A Grave Memorial# 18295624. I see that there are a lot of flat stones where he is buried and I'm wondering if his father, John Beedy, might be buried near him. Do you remember seeing any other Beedy's there? It is an unusual name. Thanks so much!
