James W Downey

I am working on a family line, and James W Downey was married to two of my ancestors (siblings of direct.)

It seems his parents were Ephraim and Nancy Downey, so I have added them to his parent links.

If this is in error, please let me know. I notice your page said they had 9 children, and you have 9 children linked for them already. (Trees on Ancestry list 10.)

Since you have photos of them, it struck me you must have information, so I thought I'd ask.

Thank you.

Regarding Burnita Rose Bucher and Dixon Miller Bucher (Bucker)
(the following obituaries--one from New Mexico, the other for Oshkosh, WI--stated that Burnita was sent to Winthrop for burial, but that Dixon was sent to Oshkosh, WI for burial) Gallup Independent 14 June 1929--Fatal Accident at Grade Crossing--Burnita Rose Bucher, aged 28, Evanston, IL, and step-son, Dixon B. Bucher, aged 8, were instantly killed Tuesday afternoon when an auto driven by the husband and father, Harold M. Bucher, was struck by the California Limited westbound.
The accident occurred at the grade crossing between Wingate and Peren. It seems that the Buchers became confused by a freight train approaching from an opposite direction and as the freight train was moving at a slow rate of speed they felt they had time to cross ahead of it. This they succeeded in doing but as they were crossing the second main track the limited swooped down upon them striking the car they were driving and hurling the occupants a great distance. Mr. Bucher is suffering from a broken leg and general bruises but will recover.
Mr. Bucher was a bond dealer in Evanston, IL, but had suffered a nervous breakdown, and was going to California for a year's rest. Mrs. Bucher was thrown more than 100 feet, the boy 150 feet and the car itself about 60 feet.
An inquest was held Wednesday morning and verdict rendered that the deceased came to their deaths from being struck by a train.
The remains of Mrs. Bucher were sent to her former home in Winthrop, IA and those of the boy to Oskosh, WI, where his grandparents reside. Gallup Undertaking company were in charge of the arrangements.
Oshkosh Daily Northwestern (Wisconsin)—12 Jun 1929--Victims of Tragedy—Mrs. Helen M. Sweet Receives Information of Death of Grandson and His Stepmother in Crash—Mrs. Helen M. Sweet received a message Tuesday evening, telling of the death of her grandson, Dixon Bucher, age 7, and his step-mother, Mrs. Harold M. Bucher, who were killed when the automobile in which they were riding with Mr. Bucher, was struck by a train at Gallup, N. Mex.
Mr. Bucher is confined to St. Mary's hospital in Gallup, with a broken leg. His first wife, who was Miss Elizabeth Sweet, of this city, passed away Jan. 24, 1926. Mr. Bucher remarried about a year ago. With his wife and son Dixon, by his former marriage, he was on his way to California when the accident occurred. Mr. Bucher has been in ill health for some time and has given up his position in Chicago to go to California to reside.
Dixon Bucher was born in Mason City, IA, nad would have been 8 years old on Oct. 12. The body will be brought here for burial and the funeral arrangements will be announced later
