Bio

I live in Burlington, NC and volunteer to take photographs at cemeteries in the area.

I am extremely interested in my ancestry and have worked extensively doing a lot of research and finding my roots in North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Pennsylvania. I was born in Texas in 1965; however, interestingly enough, I have learned my Grantham ancestors were originally in North Carolina before they relocated out west (recognize Grantham County, NC?)

My maternal grandmother was Georgia Mae Heacox who married Howard Hill Stubbs. They both grew up in North Carolina (he in Beaufort, she in Morehead City). Howard's mother and father were Vera Esther Hill Stubbs & John Howard Stubbs of Beaufort, NC. Georgia's mother and father were Sarah Mae Gaskins Heacox of Morehead City, NC and George Wesley Heacox, Jr. of Altoona, PA. George Wesley Heacox met Sarah Mae when he was stationed in North Carolina as a Coast Guard. John Howard Stubbs served in France during World War I and most likely met Vera in their hometown of Beaufort, NC. They married in 1917 at Camp Sevier, South Carolina, where he was stationed, when he was 24 and she was 20.

My paternal grandmother was Catherine Kelly Grantham who married NC Grantham, Jr. Catherine was originally from Glasgow, Scotland and my grandfather met her during World War II and brought her back to the U.S. My father was born in Great Britain, before they returned to the U.S. I do not have as much information on my Grantham/Kelly ancestors as I would like to have at this time.

Other surnames in our North Carolina ancestoral family tree: Gaskins, Moore, Whitley, Bell, Whitehurst, Hill, Chadwick, Sabiston.

My Heacox line ancestors: Bowen,Rudolph, Shetterly.

My Grantham ancestors: Anderson, Williams, Barfield, Benson, Mitcham, Prewitt/Pruitt.

Scotland: Kelly (my paternal grandmother, Catherine Kelly.

Please feel free to send me information you may have for the memorials I have created. This is an ongoing journey with more memorials in the future.
