April 1861 marked the beginning of the War Between the States. One month later, Annie Hanna was born to John and Athalinda Hanna. John enlisted in the Confederate States Army in November 1861 and served as Private in Co. B, 4th Alabama Infantry.
He was present at many battles in Virginia and served as litter bearer. Athalinda sewed coats for Confederate soldiers and served as Chief Nurse at the hospital in Madison, Georgia.
John and Athalinda are buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jasper, Florida.
Annie married Thomas Jefferson Darracott and the family moved to Lakeland, Polk Co., Florida in 1895. Annie became a civic and patriotic leader going on to become the founder of the Lakeland Chapters of United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1904, United Daughters of the American Revolution and The National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century. She proposed and spearheaded the effort to erect a Confederate monument in Lakelandʼs Munn Park in 1910. The figure of a gallant Confederate Soldier now stands as a memorial to all who served the Confederacy.
The Lakeland Chapter of UDC changed its name in 1945. Now the Annie H. Darracott 791 chapter of UDC remains committed to these objectives: Historical, Educational, Benevolent, Memorial and Patriotic.
Annie went to heaven in 1956 at the age of 95. She is buried in Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeland, Polk Co., Florida.
We honor her memory, her leadership and her dedication to UDC.
Each of the Confederate veterans in our virtual cemeteries are in at least two cemeteries. One designating the state he served from, and one designating the state he is buried in.

Hi, I'm sorry to say, unless something has changed in the last few years, that pictures in Bata Mill Cemetery are impossible to get. My husband and I were there in 2000 and met a man who was working to clear some of the area searching for his relatives' headstones. We took pictures of the few headstones he had uncovered. A few years later we went back and the property had changed owners and was heavily posted. The area we could see from the road that had been somewhat cleared was completely overgrown again. It's a real shame that it is not accessible and able to be cleared. It is a large area and would take an enormous amount of work to clear. I'm so glad I took the few pictures I did. As far as I know they are the only recent pictures available of any headstones there.

I reported earlier today that I could not find Henry Andrews' gravestone photo for you - that was incorrect! I went to two adjacent cemeteries today and accidentally looked for him in the wrong one...

I see you have left a flower for James W. WILLIAMS, Memorial# 46610804
He served in Co. E, 5th Florida Infantry,
C.S.A.
I am trying to find out if this was the James W. WILLIAMS (1843-1876) m. Clementine DURRANCE and was the first Marshall of Orlando, killed by a deputy sheriff.
Can you supply any further records through his military records?

Find A Grave memorial 46062575
I have searched for proof that he was in the Civil War. I have found a few men that could be him, but there are a lot of William George men. You have added to his memorial "He was a Commissary Barrel Maker for the CSA during the War Between the States." I would like to have the information for that if you have it so I can prove that was him in my George family genealogy.
