|Claudia Davenport-Sullivan||Memorial# 120844363 - Mary Unknown Potts|
I'm confused about this burial of Mary "Thomaston" Potts in Virginia in 1720. I can't find any verification that maiden name of the 1st wife of Jonas Potts was Thomaston and that she died in 1720 in Virginia is also odd as Jonas Potts was still in Philadelphia County in 1722 when he signed as a witness to the marriage of his niece Elizabeth Potts to Peter Cleaver Jr and a Petition at the Court of Quarter Sessions for a road from French Creek to Philadelphia along the Schuylkill River; in 1726 he signed as a witness to the marriage of Richard Jacobs and Barbara Woolrush in now Montgomery County; in 1727 he signed a Quitclaim deed with his 2nd wife Mary (Burson) Potts regarding her deceased father George's land in Gilberts Manor to Harman IndeHaven at Limerick and he also signed a loan book in Philadelphia in 1737. On 29 Apr 1740 he requested a certificate of removal from Gwynedd Mtg to ? unstated for himself and his wife, but it was denied on 27 May 1740. The earliest records of his children being in VA are his sons Jonas and David Potts in 1746; Jonathan by 1752. I'd appreciate any help with this - thanks! Claudia

Do you mean Stoke Bruerne, South Northamptonshire Borough, Northamptonshire, England as a page for that church already exists?

You have Thomas Fortune as John's father. However John was born in 1658 and Thomas was born in 1678. Thomas is John's son not his father. It appears to be a loop in your data.

You created a new cemetery called Potts cemetery in Hillsboro. There is Old Potts cemetery where David Potts is believed to be buried. There is a monument there for him. As far as Jonas Potts Sr. and Mary Thomaston Potts what sources did you use to indicate where they are buried? Did you mean to place all of these in Old Potts cemetery? I have never found any records of a Potts cemetery and would like to know if these two,are the same cemetery. Have you been to either cemetery? I visited Old Potts last Novemeber. A lot of my ancestors (and probably yours) are buried there.

How can she be born in Rehoboth when that place was not occupied by English, or even whites in the stated date of 1584. Seems that most histories I have been privy to over the years indicate that non-native americans did not exist in this area until 1620 and beyond.

There seems to be much confusion I know on the spouse of Dorothy Brown, but I think if you do your history research you will find that Dorothy Brown was married to John Brown who also died in Swanea about 11 to twelve years earlier. John Brown owned a sizeable estate in Swansea, MA as he was instrumental in the early dealings of the Plymouth Colony. Both came from England about 1626-27,
