Female, Born and live in PA, Retired, Interested in Genealogy, Enjoy taking photo's and currently updating my family collection.|
Researching my family ancestry, Woodside & Wilson/maternal, Jacobs & Whitmoyer (Whitmire)/paternal sides of family. Would be interested in receiving and/or sharing any information and photo's with others in my ancestry. Mother died when I was 3-1/2 years old & lost touch with family. Now that I am retired I am trying to reconnect with family members and especially gather photo's available.

Ah, you're looking in the right cemetery then. Unfortunately there was a fire in 1914 that destroyed the church's records. Some were reconstructed from records at the Montgomery County historical society, but they won't turn the records back over to the church. The only way to know who was interred prior to 1914 is to walk through and look for headstones, hoping they still exist and are legible.

Thank you for catching the error in George P. Tompkins' dates; I made the correction.
Yes, the cemetery as well as the surrounding town were once known as Barren Hill, but the name wasn't very popular. The town was renamed Lafayette Hill after the Marquis de Lafayette who used the church to sight the British during the Revolutionary War.
I don't see anything in my files about a Susan Tompkins or any Woodlings at St. Peter's--sorry.

|Valerie J. Bieber||Rebecca MARGARET Reese vs. Rebecca ALICE Reese|
THANK YOU! I've played with these two interchangeable women for a few years now, trying to figure out who really was the (2nd) wife of William George, and you've finally made sense out of the confusion for me! I've been working on obtaining death certs for their children in an effort to figure it out, but that hasn't been helpful since two say "unknown" for the mother and one says "Rebecca Reese." But I've also found references to Margaret...but my ancestor was their youngest child, Alice. I had the same parents for my gg grandmother (whomever she was!) that you have for Rebecca MARGARET, and since you have personal knowledge of who Rebecca ALICE was, I think that mystery is finally solved once and for all. I'm so glad I saw your post! Now if I can just learn more about William George... He's been quite a brick wall.

Hi I am not sure how you fit into the Whitmoyer family but I am going to take a good stab we are related :-D My mother was a Whitmoyer from Pine Summit and my paternal grandmother was a Whitmoyer from Unityville. They were very distantly related. So I have lots of info gathered. You can email me at CJsDia@aol.com if you like.

You are welcom.

I totally agree with you! Please let me know how it goes if you do give the cemetery a call and request the photo. I'm really curious as to if they would actually take a picture for you. It's such a bummer. I was really surprised when I was there this morning and received a lecture and a stern warning. I had spoken with staff on two other occasions and they were fine with volunteers taking pictures for descendants. Something must've happened, maybe a volunteer was being disrespectful or something. Either way, it's really too bad :( There are somewhere around 40k graves at this cemetery, so I imagine that they'll be receiving a lot of calls regarding photo requests!
