Seems I have always enjoyed old cemeteries. I remember walking through many of them as a child. |
It is great to have a site that will allow us to create a virtual safeguard for the preservation of old cemeteries. More and more vanish away each day due to erosion, time and just plain "progress".
Most of the contributors here have invested considerable effort, time and money to search out, record and verify records of long ago.
Please respect the work of those who have battled the elements to photograph a cemetery. Not to mention the many hours involved in adding them to the site.
Anything you feel needs to be added please do not hesitate to send a message via the edit tab located on every memorial. New information is added ASAP.
My membership to this website predates Ancestry's acquisition and all photos submitted by me are copyrighted by me. No use of photos by ancestry.com is given nor use of any other website or publishing. All copyright infringements will be pursued.
The site has very stringent rules on naming conventions. Also we are "blessed" with other contributors who enjoy making sure we stick to the rules. To change the name of a person from other what is listed on the marker would not only be inviting duplications (according to site guidelines) but also loads of SACs from others for not following the rules.
We should be honoring the departed's wish of the name they wanted to be remembered by.
Initials should be changed to names if possible of course.
Find a Grave is a memorial site where one can pay a tribute to those who have died on before us. It's purpose gives relatives the opportunity to virtually visit the graves of their family. The site is also a research. site. It was never intended to be a genealogy site and requesting transfers to create your family tree are not what this site is about.
If your goal is only to maintain memorials of those that kin to you, it goes against what this site is all about.
I always make all corrections, additions and family links sent as long as they legitimate.
If you want to be a major part and contribute to FINDAGRAVE, please go out and do some work of your own. Walk cemeteries, visit newspaper offices, state archives, find where your relatives are buried. Sitting back and expecting to just take and not add as well just doesn't seem right somehow. Just maintaining your relatives memorials is not a contribution.
Please be a contributor to Findagrave and not just a manager of someone else's work
