Thomas Gallain Gentry was born about 1817 in Tennessee. His parents were Jesse Gentry and his wife Elizabeth Gallian who were married in Tennessee on January 28, 1807.

Thomas grew up to marry Rebecca Brown. Thomas and Rebecca were farmers and lived near Gainesboro, Jackson County, Tennessee, all their adult lives. They had eight known children--Henderson Brown, Barbara J., Samantha, Noah, William Francis, Elizabeth Rebecca, Simon L., and Silas A. Gentry.

From 1862 to 1865, Thomas enlisted in the Army of the Confederate States of America. He served in the 8th Tennessee Cavalry and was listed in the 1890 Tennessee Veterans' Schedule.

Rebecca died when she was about 60 years old and was buried in what is now referred to as the Thomas Gentry Cemetery on Blackburn's Fork Road. Thomas died in 1898 and was buried beside her. His gravestone reads, "Father of HB, WF, and Others--God gave, He took, He will restore."

I love the picture you posted for John Abercrombie. I would guess this is with his first wife, Rosa and their children. I am related through the second wife, Mary Jane "Mollie." I have listed for John & Rosa; children William Stephens, Elizabeth, Mary, Nancy & Ruth. Am I right or are their other children?
