Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my family for over 45 years. It was slow going at first. Then came the computer and things got faster. Then came Find-A-Grave and doors opened. I have accomplished more in the last 10 years than before. After seeing how FAG helped me, I think it is important to record all cemetery records. Not just for the genealogy benefit, but also history. As one said, the headstones will wear, but the on line record will serve the test of time. I'm amazed how fast FAG is growing. I will create a memorial; go to create another and record numbers will have increased 30 or 40 in just a few minutes. I have heard folks say some are just entering memorials for the numbers. I disagree with that because the more we do; the faster the information is available.

First, I would like to thank all contributors that have helped me with my family records. With your help I now have over 6,000 names in my tree. I feel real blessed for your help.

I read somewhere, "If you don't have time to do it right…. When will you have time to do it over?" We are all trying to honor those who came before us, so let's do it right. If you find a mistake in my records, or just want me to add information, please use the "edit" tab so I'll find the record quicker.

I grew up in the Virginia Tidewater area and have since moved west and now in the Tri City, Virginia area. If I can be of help, please let me know.

"Life should not be just a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming woo hoo what a ride!"

Thanks for the visit.

I don't know if you are aware (someone had to bring it to my attention as well), but findagrave has a new feature. On your contributor page, there is now an edits tab, with all edits sent to you for name, birthday plot etc. I have sent you many edits that are pending approval. Can you go in and approve them please? Thanks.

Luther Haynes
Hello,

Luther Haynes is buried on his family's property with other members of his family. The memorial marker for him at Virginia Military Institute Museum represents the history of his death, and is not the location of his actual grave. In any event, I appreciate you contacting me with your concern.

Regards,

Pvt. Henry C. Eggelton
I Thank you for the information about H. H. Eggleston of the 24th Va. Inf. The one I have up is right. He died in General Hospital No. 20 Richmond, Va. He was 19 years old born in Henry Co., Va.. Your Henry died on the Battlefield he was not sent to a hospital. I checked his Military Records to make sure. I do not have him on my list of soldiers buried at Oakwood. He might have been buried on the field were he died or a farm or Church. I posted and corrected Henry C. last name Eggelton and Military Records so you can see them. There is a James and Joseph Eggleston both in the 7th Va. buried at Oakwood. The last name could have been spelled either way back then.

Emma Parr/ James Cooper in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, VA
Greetings Golden Eagle,
Today I went to Elmwood Cemetery to research your photo request for Emma Parr and James Cooper. Many of the cemetery records were destroyed in a fire in the 1930's so records are somewhat sketchy. Records are crossed referenced with the plot owners (purchasers) and I looked both ways, but was not able to find the burial locations for either individual. Seems the Parr plot may have been owned by a George Chamberlaine or an R.H. Pulley, but there is Emma Parr is not buried in those plots, unless her grave is unmarked.
Here is what I was able to learn:
Emma Parr, born 8.26.1885, died 9.3.1886 of Cholera Infantism at 85 Salter Street.

James Cooper died 2.9.1895 at the age of 6 days of Infantile Convulsions at 88 Wide Street. The owner of the plot was J.S. Cooper, but I could not locate the graves.

The cemetery is very old and has been vandalized heavily over the years, so much is in disrepair. I did not "report a problem" or take down your photo request on the F.A.G. website, but you may wish to.

Best regards,
David
