I was born and raised and work in northern Virginia. I'm a 63 year old Federal Government employee with 40 years of service. Almost ten years after its inception, I found this site quite by accident when a co-worker asked me to help him at lunch time take a photograph of a headstone that was overgrown with bushes. After that, I was hooked fulfilling photo requests, primarily at nearby Arlington National Cemetery.
Then it occurred to me that this would be a great place to document my family tree for all to see, which would be based on the extensive genealogical research that my aunt has been doing for the past 15 to 20 years. This project of linking thousands of memorials is going to take a very long time (if it's at all possible) to complete due to several memorial creators, totally unrelated to my family, who will neither transfer ownership nor respond to SAC edits. That is not to say that all memorial creators are like that. Indeed, most are very gracious and totally responsive, and for that, I whole-heartedly thank them.
If I have a memorial for one of your relatives, I'll gladly transfer ownership upon request. If you make your transfer request via SAC edit and after two days I haven't made the transfer, please email me directly or leave a public message here on this page.
You have my permission to use any of my photos, as long as you include attribution. | |

 | UNREASONABLE MEMORIAL HOLDERS Dave, I just saw your bio and the frustration with people setting up memorials on Find A Grave of people they may or may not know and then refusing to transfer them to family members or even close friends who would like to update and/or correct and maintain these sites. I had that happen recently because my ancestor was not immediate family although the person who set up the memorial isn't even a relative nor friend. She flatly refused to transfer it to me and told me to supply any info I had to her through the memorial link to edit. I don't think so. I have worked for 2 yrs on my family tree and the info I have I want credit for so I set up my own memorial with the correct info. She didn't have it right and apparently as long as she could get credit for another notch in her belt she didn't care if it was right or not. I also had pictures which I added so now my family member is where he belongs with his correct and additional info, etc. and linked to other memorials in our family on here. I think Find A Grave needs to review their policy about who has priority over the grave memorials because it is really about the DECEASED person and their family NOT the person who set up the memorial. I share my info, like you do, and would transfer someone not in my family but everyone I have listed is either in my family or was a friend, former classmate or neighbor. I haven't started doing strangers yet, as I still have family to yet get added on here. Thank you so much for your work. I will request photo of my late first husband at Arlington and his father so when you are over that way next time you might be able to get better photo than the shapshot I had to use. Thanks so much.Added by Hettie on May 18, 2013 12:40 PM | | | Row Walker
