RE: Tucker-Murfee cemetery
You're welcome. Glad I could help. I must say the geographical characteristic intrigued me and I HAD to photograph it. Luckily the landowner was more than agreeable to let me have access and get the pics of them!

Linda Lennard
Florida State Hospital
My name is Linda Adams Lennard and I am a contributor of FindAGrave.com. I am writing you because you had requested information for a person buried at the Florida State Mental Hospital's cemetery in Chattahoochee, Gadsden Co., FL.

My husband's grandfather died there in 1926 and we have been searching for years for his grave. I chanced upon a study that was done in 2011 by the Chicora Foundation (www.chicora.org). They are a non-profit that does cemetery surveys and are based in South Carolina. Chicora's specialty is in cemetery preservation. The Department of Corrections, in conjunction with the Department of Children & Families of Florida, requested the survey be done after learning about two cemeteries that are not being maintained and are in a wooded area. These are cemeteries #3 and #4.

Dr. Trinkley of Chicora and his team have done an excellent job in filing a report on, not only the current cemetery #5, but the lost cemeteries #1 through #4. To access the report and save a copy to your file go to: www.chicora.org. Go to Publications along top bar. Click Research Contributions. Click Research Publications (451+). Scroll to #537. The report is a 243 page PDF file but can be saved to your file. It is one of the most thorough reports and has one of the most complete listing of burials in all 5 cemeteries.

Dr. Trinkley has also given data on grave preservation and maintenance for each cemetery. The property that #3 & #4 cemeteries is on had been leased to the Department of Corrections but in the last few weeks has been turned backed over to the Department of Children & Families who is responsible for the Florida State Hospital. I have been in touch with Mr. Bill Bridges, Senior Architect, Department of Children & Families
Office of General Services Design & Construction to find out plans for preservation and maintenance. And, of course, as we all know it boils down to money. I am in the planning stages of contacting our representatives on the state level to, not only make them aware of the cemeteries and the condition, but to propose some sort of assistance in providing funding for their care.

I also will be attending my local genealogical meeting this Saturday (April 13) to drum up support for contacting representatives. If you are interested in joining this endeavor please contact me either by replying to this message or by my contact info below.
