Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been doing family research since the late 1970's. I have been associated with the Jefferson County (KS) Genealogical Society, being the organizing President and since served in that capacity two more times. I live in Winchester, Kansas. My wife, Marie and I have been married 62 years. We have four living children, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. My family research interests are many, but especially Riley, Nettleton, Curry and Fulton. We have many ancestors buried in Atchison and Jefferson Counties, Kansas. In addition, I have served the United Methodist Church as organist for the past 50 years and have served the Winchester and Jefferson County North Schools as statistician for over 60 years. I was the Director of the Winchester Public Library at the time the present building was constructed.

Please contact me if you find a direct relative's memorial I manage, and would like to have the memorial transferred. Please include your Find a Grave ID # with any requests. If you find any errors or wish to have me add additional information to a memorial, please let me know.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to send me the obituary for Peter Simmons. I had one that has been handed down in the family that was a little larger but yours had some information it did not have. Wish you the very best, Donna

Thank you for adding the info I gave you for Mildred. You were very quick to respond. Appreciate that so much. I believe that I sent a typo in the bio. I have sent the correction in the edit on the memorial. Sorry for that.

RE: Riley Family
Awesome Raymond... how exciting! I am aware of the works you mentioned but have never seen them and would LOVE to check them out. So then you do already know how fabulous and rich in history our Riley line is. Your kids are close to my age (I'm 60 tomorrow) and I hope they are interested in these things too. I would encourage you to write about the Riley's but I do know how time slips away, and I hope you will find time to do it. My hope is also to find as many of the still living Riley lines, and pull them back together in the interest of not losing who we are and what we know about our ancestors. That's why I told you to find me on Facebook, but I figure you don't do Facebook. But I bet your kids and grand kids do, and please encourage them to find me Karen Zimmer Sutton Brooks and I will add them as friends. I have made some progress in adding lost members of the Riley family lines as my Facebook friends and post a lot of Riley info there..... Glad to find you Raymond and God bless you for all your effort! Karen

Riley Family
I believe I did find you in the 11th generation just like me:
11 Raymond Eugene Riley DOB: Jul. 21, 19XX POB: Atchison,Atchison County, Kansas DOD: Living/2012 Burial: Reformed Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Winchester, Jefferson County,Kansas +Ester Marie Fulton DOB: Dec. 15, 19XX DOD: Living/2012 (I deleted birth year here because of privacy)
If so, your father and mother is 10th generation Paul and Hazel. Paul's parents are 9th generation Claude and Katherine. Claude's parents are 8th generation John and Malvena. Claude's parents are 7th generation Henderson and Margaret. Henderson's parents are 6th generation Isaac and Polly. Isacc's parents are 5th generation John Wright Riley and Sarah Elsberry. Not sure you are aware that Sarah's mother was a Wright and that line has a LOT of George Washington connections. You see this surname a lot in the naming of Riley, and several Rileys and Wrights married each other in the 4th-6th generations. The Frances Wright that married Gerrard Riley was the sister of Agatha Wright Elsberry, the mother of our Sarah Elsberry. They were both grand-daughters of Maj Francis Wright, who married the sister of George Washington's grandfather, so ole George was in our Riley line long before he was even born. Fun stuff to know... !

RE: Riley Family
Hi Raymond! This is what I came up with on your line from my records. Based on your info, I'm not sure I have it correct because your Isaac Bell Riley is my Isaac Berry Riley and your William Wellman Riley is my John Wright Riley - Isaac Berry's father and my 5X great grandfather. There is no doubt that we are in the same Riley family but it can be confusing because so many of the same names occur - many through the generations named their children after siblings and parents so the same names are often repeated. Compare your info to the following and we'll go from there.... It's very exciting to find you Raymond and compare notes - you are my first living Riley "cousin" and you live right here in Kansas!!!! Thanks a bunch! karen

RE: Riley Family
Sure does ring a bell, as those are all in my line too. So is this your paternal line that you mentioned? Also, Eliphaz is the son of Aodh or Hugh Riley, who is the son of Maolmordha or Miles Riley, who was born in Ireland in 1614 and came to America in 1634. There is so much info about our Riley family, it's mind boggling. Extremely fascinating.... I am just finishing a complete genealogy of our Riley line,it's over 220 pages long! I'll check out your line closer and get back to ya, but if you do Facebook find me and send me a friend profile name is Karen Zimmer Sutton Brooks.... talk to ya soon! THANKS!

RE: George Hebert Switzer
Interesting that you lived here. I am sure it has changed a lot.
I am from Manhattan, Kansas and it has really changed. I was in the service in 1962 to 1965 and then left and moved to Hutchinson, Ks for awhile and then to Oklahoma City for about 5 years and now Tulsa.
If you have a phone for the cemetery I would be happy to call and ask if they have info on if he had a stone or not.

Thank you.
If it would be better you can send me any info you find at so we do not have a bunch on Find-A-Grave.

RE: George Hebert Switzer
Raymond, on August 1, 2012 you set up the memorial #94664337 so you must have had some kind of information on him that he was buried in Pleasant View Cemetery. Please check the records again and see if they show a headstone listed.

Raymond, I am interested along with the person that asked for a picture of the memorial back
March 2 2014 at Pleasant View Cemetery. The memorial number is #94664337. Would you be able and kind enough to be able to get us a picture of the headstone?
