Some names of interest in my own family line include Lowther, Thistle, Milne, Henderson, Zirkle, Tedrow, Briix, and Blythe, my great-grandparents' names. My husband's family names include Doan, Corder, Dokken, Tangen, Goff, Allen and Peterson. Please send corrections/ updates; I want things to be accurate.|
My grandmother, Wanda Zirkle Jilka, and great-aunt, Veda Zirkle Vickery, compiled a book commonly referred to as "The Red Book," "Zirkle Branches 1725-1978, Yesteryears and Yesterdays." There are several copies for sale if anyone is interested. It mainly outlines the history of two Zirkle/Zerkel branches which left VA, went to OH, then settled in Richland, Shawnee Co, KS.
"Life is not separate from death. It only looks that way." Blackfoot Quote
"A Visit to the Gravesite"
Your Tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and dates are chiseled here,
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
Though it is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh and blood and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago,
I wonder if you could have known,
Would spread among the ones you left
In all the seeds you've sown.
I wonder how you lived and loved?
I wonder if you ever knew?
That someday I would find you in this spot,
And come to visit you?
Walter Butler Palmer

|RDeml||Nancy Allen Doan|
Some have the parents of Nancy Allen Doan as Josiah Allen and Elizabeth Deloach. How did you come up with James and Matilda in the description?

Becky, One hundred points for the day in Genealogy finding above information. I'm trying to get all my sites in Gypsum Hill, a beautiful Salina, Ks, cemetery, that has alot of connections to Lyon & Coffey counties in Kansas. Have a wonderful memorial day and wish not a wet day. Richard
|Mayflower Pilgrim 332||Dr Franklin Perry|
Becky, Thanks so much. You received 10 GOOD marks in genealogy for this one. Richard
|Mayflower Pilgrim 332||Doctor F Perry #107625995|
Becky, The above was in Lyon county in 1880 census with his wife & children. The census calls him "Doctor F Perry" and "D F Perry". Having a hard time finding his first name, know he was born in Kentucky & wife Julia born in Virginia. Apparently only in Emporia about 10-15 years. Any help appreciated. richard
|June Higgins||RE: Elizabeth Rogers and Elizabeth Snow|
Becky, before doing anything, I searched FindAGrave for the two Elizabeths again today and found the other memorial for Elizabeth Rogers (Higgins) is still intact. I don't know why I got the page that said her memorial had been merged with Elizabeth Snow (Rogers), but evidently it hadn't been.
I think now that there must be a fluke in the Ancestry.com link to her memorial in FindAGrave. I will try that again and let them know.
In case you're interested, the other memorial is #73415586, Elizabeth Rogers Higgins. She married the brother of my husband's 7X great-grandfather, Benjamin Higgins.
Sorry to have bothered you on this. Thanks again.
|June Higgins||Elizabeth Rogers and Elizabeth Snow|
FindAGrave says that the memorial for Elizabeth Rogers has been merged with your memorial for Elizabeth Snow Rogers. They are not the same people. Elizabeth Rogers was the daughter of Joseph Rogers and married Jonathan Higgins. Can you do something to restore the memorial for Elizabeth Rogers?
Thank you, June Higgins
|T. McLean||Hattie Doane|
|T. McLean||Hattie Doane #65882694|
Becky, Hattie #65882694 is not the daughter of Boyd and Camilla Doane, but is Hattie (Yoachum) Doane, wife of Perle S. Doane. Hattie and Perle have memorials on findagrave - hers is 73671981. Could you please delete the duplicate?
Boyd and Camilla have a daughter, Laura Jane, whose records are being confused with this Hattie.
However, Laura died in KS and is buried there with her 2nd husband, Walter Harsh, and has a findagrave memorial #63333162.
Thanks for all of your hard work!
You need to make correction regarding month of death of Mabel Dora Hinkle. As you had written down as March as it should be May. Please take a closer look at the tombstone. Thank you. Frank
