Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a third generation funeral director in Greensburg, Indiana. I have done research on my family tree. I have placed all individuals in our funeral records dating back to 1886 on the find-a-grave website.
I would like to thank Russell Wilhoit for all his efforts in recording the burials at South Park Cemetery up until 1924 on spreadsheet. I would also like to thank Greg Meyer for all his work in documenting burials in several cemeteries in Decatur County. I have used their information for many of the memorials in which I have placed on Find-a-grave.

RE: Robert Schofner
There are times when I do believe the funeral home records on a date because they are in chronological order - especially for the death date - so I was hoping that was one you added from your own records. Your explanation of him being reburied in 1910 probably does explain the mistake on the tombstone.

Perhaps this might be one of those times where a note put in his bio calling attention to the error on his tombstone might help others who would wonder about the difference and save you getting another contact about the difference.

RE: Dates
I never know what to believe on dates. Have seen info for birth certificate, marriage license, death certificate and obituary with different information than on the stone. As I tell many people, information is only as good as the informant's memory and filling out a death certificate or tombstone info for the funeral home is a very stressfull situation and memories are not always the best.

Classic case very near to me, had I not arrived on the scene at the funeral home when my father-in-law died with my info that I had hastily scribbled on a piece of paper before my husband and I flew out for his father's funeral, my brother-in-law would have given a WHOLE lot of info to the funeral home director for the newspaper obituary and it would have all been WRONG!

So I sometimes may give preference for tombstone info over other info, but I don't like to be the judge and jury - unless it would be someone I personally know - like my father's birth certificate that he never bothered to change from January 22 to his actual date of February 2 because my grandmother said the delivering doctor was three sheets in the wind dead drunk when he stopped by the house!

salvatore Navarra BIO
Sheriff Salvatore Navarra was killed in an automobile accident during a vehicle pursuit over two miles east of Clarksburg.

As the pursuit reached speeds of over 110 mph, Sheriff Navarra's vehicle flipped over as he took a curve. He was ejected through the windshield before being crushed by his squad car.

The 18-year-old suspect was being pursued at the request of his parole officer for gasoline theft. When he was apprehended a week later hiding in an attic, he threatened authorities with a hunting knife. He was taken into custody and charged with resisting arrest, reckless driving, driving without a license and failure to obey a police officer.

Sheriff Navarra had served with the Decatur County Sheriff's Department for nearly 2 years.
