Bio Photo Thomas Bitticker, researcher of local history in Tuscararawas County, Ohio and collector of images and documents. A life member of the Tuscarawas County Historical Society and a member of First Families of Tuscarawas County, Ohio.

I enjoy browsing through cemeteries during my free time and tend to capture the images of markers that I find interesting, or ones that mark the graves of people whom I came in contact with.

In the event that incorrect information is recorded by me, please enter the correct information through the edits tab and I will approve the edit. Also, if anyone feels the need to manage a memorial that I posted, please do not hesitate to request that privilege. My enjoyment of taphophilia is an avocation rather than a vocation.

The serenity, mind expansion, and relaxation that occur during my cemetery visits make the experience worthwhile. A tremendous amount of history can be extracted with minimal expense. In light of our nation's present economic situation, this pastime could gain popularity.

RE: Peter Haas
I think the photo is indeed for Peter Haas (1828-1925) great-uncle of Thelma Caroline (Haas) Fleeman Find a Grave Memorial # 101650149. Her grandfather was John Jacob Hass (1832-1911) Find a Grave Memorial # 101651853, younger brother of Peter. There is also another brother, John Haas (1831-1875) Find A Grave Memorial# 78567884 whose wife and descendants may be in the photo.
The birth record for Anna Haas, daughter of Peter, has the name Elizabeth Anna Haas--born 14 Mar 1873 in Jefferson, Coshocton, Ohio, father Peter Haas--which fits with the family's 1900 census record and the 1920 census where she is living with her father, but I don't know what became of her after that. However there is also an Anna S. Hass, daughter of Jacob Haas, (1874-1947) Find a Grave Memorial # 101651650. So there may be descendants from all three brothers in the photo. What's your goal? I will help if I can.

William & Carrie Bair
Hi Thomas,

Thank you so much for taking this picture! I really appreciate it. This site and its members have been such an enormous help to me in my research. I did want to let you know, though, that the wife depicted on the stone is not Carrie Bair. Carrie was Williams second wife. The one who lies next to him in the cemetery is his first wife. :)

Thank you again,

Kelly Heuser

RE: Peter Haas
Hi Thomas, I don't know his family personally, but since I was researching other Hass family members that are in my family, I did create memorial pages and links to some of his descendants. Do you have any further information to identify any of the other people in the photo? In addition to linked children on his memorial, other children listed on census records were: Adam, Philip, Anna and Pearl/Flora.
(a suggestion for the caption: I think you meant to type patriarch not matriarch)
