I am a retired high school history teacher, having taught in the public schools of St. Mary's County, Maryland. I am a native of Huntington, Suffolk County, New York.|
I have been interested in visiting old cemeteries since I was a child, when cemetery visiting was a family activity.
I began a project during the American Revolution Bicentennial to update the cemetery lists held by the St. Mary's County Historical Society, Leonardtown, MD. This project, using high school students, extended into the early 1980s. Some cemetery lists were published in the "Maryland-Delaware Genealogist."
I worked with the GenExchange Project adding cemetery data from both Long Island, New York, and Calvert and St. Mary's counties in Southern Maryland. I have also worked with the longislandgenealogy.com site.
I am editor of the "Generator," the quarterly publication of the St. Mary's County Genealogical Society and am also 2nd Vice President of that organization.
Currently, I'm a member of the Sgt. James H. Harris Camp #38, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. We are now in a project to identify & mark graves of the unknown Union soldiers in St. Mary's & Calvert counties.

In response to your question:
The death certificate for my great grandmother, Jane Elizabeth (Bean) Tippett, lists Oaklawn Cemetery as her place of burial. Because she and my great grandfather, Benjamin Franklin Tippett, lived in Sparrows Pt housing, it must be the Oaklawn Cemetery in or near Eastpoint, MD, a few miles west of their home. I have not found her grave listed anywhere on-line. Note: Jane was the dau of John Stephen Bean and Anne Elizabeth Fenhagen, both buried at St. Nicholas RCC Cemetery on on the Naval Air Station in SMC.
I do not have death or burial information for my great grandfather, but I would guess that he too is buried at Oaklawn. Note: Benjamin was the son of William Henry Tippett and Susan Amelia Neale, both buried at the Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Mary's City.

Thanks so much for posting his obituary and updating his memorial based on information in the obit.
You ask many good questions! I'm afraid I don't have the answers for you. I am not closely related….
My aunt sent me a photocopy of his obit many years ago, which I just recently scanned and transcribed.
I am assuming that there is a connection to this gentlemen with the Foulkes' who married one of the sisters of my great-grandfather in Wisconsin, to this gentlemen. But exactly what that connection is, will require more research. That connection is via Rev Thomas J Foulkes, #120938976, who was also a Methodist Episcopal minister. Once I figure out who Thomas' parents were the connection might be clearer.
So your good questions will take some time to sort out.
Always more work to do!

he would have been born on March 11, 1791.
I been searching for my Biggs kin and came across this and thought I would put this out there for others researching this line.
unknown if I am related to this particular individual or not at this time.

Thank you and I have moved him to the proper cemetery. I deleted the old request and did a new one afterwards.

Will you kindly use Find A Grave protocols and request this via the "Edit" tab, then the "Suggest a correction . . ." link? This will give me a link directly to the memorial. I do appreciate your time and efforts in creating this new cemetery and doing the research necessary.

Thank you so much for adding my daughter to this site. I just came across it by accident. It was a wonderful thing to find. Her Grandfather is now next to her in the same cemetary. Somehow I find it comforting she is not alone. We miss them both terribly!
