Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a retired high school history teacher, having taught in the public schools of St. Mary's County, Maryland. I am a native of Huntington, Suffolk County, New York.

I have been interested in visiting old cemeteries since I was a child, when cemetery visiting was a family activity.

I began a project during the American Revolution Bicentennial to update the cemetery lists held by the St. Mary's County Historical Society, Leonardtown, MD. This project, using high school students, extended into the early 1980s. Some cemetery lists were published in the "Maryland-Delaware Genealogist."

I worked with the GenExchange Project adding cemetery data from both Long Island, New York, and Calvert and St. Mary's counties in Southern Maryland. I have also worked with the longislandgenealogy.com site.

I was editor of the "Generator," the quarterly publication of the St. Mary's County Genealogical Society from 1994 to 2014, except for one year. I also served as 2nd Vice President of that organization.

Currently, I'm a member of the Sgt. James H. Harris Camp #38, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. We are now in a project to identify & mark graves of the known Union soldiers in St. Mary's & Calvert counties.

Thank you so much for the correction. I wish I had more ancestors to connect with him. This is one of the few of the ancestors from Baltimore Maryland that have appeared in Find a Grave. I'm so grateful for it too. If I find more, I'll let you know. Thanks.

Hi--I am extremely grateful for your posting of the grave and information concerning Thomas Conklin, my 6th ggrandfather. Was pleased to learn that he was a Patriot in the Revolutionary War.

Would like to correspond with you re the Conklin family.

Appreciatively,

Hi, Can you please correct the spelling of Earl Francis Hofmann's memorial. #21598832 You have it spelled Hoffman and his correct spelling is Hofmann, with only one F in Hofmann. Thanks a million.

RE: Mary Green
Thanks!! I'm about 2 hours away, so I certainly appreciate that. I do have a question for you. My great grandmother's father was Enoch Richard Evans. I saw an article from 1905 that said he was a noted handball player in Leonardtown "in the alley behind Tubman's Store." I was at the Historical Society there back in about 2004 and there was a woman there in her 90s who did not remember that store. I'd love to find out the location of that store and of course that alley if it still exists there in Leonardtown. I've done a few web searches to no avail. If you've heard of it or know where I can find that answer I'd appreciate it. BTW - Mary's husband's family is originally from Sayville, Long Island...

RE: St. Michael's Cemetery
not a problem, i am doing ancestry at the same time as find a grave to make sure of the cross references. I figured 2 ways of verification couldn't hurt
