Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am a genealogist and native/resident of Western MA. (Springfield / Westfield). My earliest ancestor arrived here in 1639 (Rowland Stebbins). I primarily photograph cemeteries without a readily available trans. and add memorials from my photos.

The primary motivation for my work on Find A Grave is of a genealogical nature and as such I encourage valid edits and biographical details and will work with members any way I am able in order for the finished result to look something like this or this.

90% of the memorials I manage are local to my area (MA/CT/VT/NH/RI). If I do create a memorial in a distant state/cemetery it is most likely for an individual with familial ties to New England.

As you can see by the # of photos I have uploaded in a short period of time (Since Nov. 2013 when I began dedicating more time to FAG) I work very hard trying to discover the final resting place of local individuals. I intend to photograph every memorial I have created and I have taken close to 300,000 headstone photos since November of 2013 only 1/3 of which are currently uploaded. I work on this daily, and currently over 120,000 of the memorials I manage have headstone/marker photographs.

I will respond quickly to edits and suggestions in the interim and will even go take a photo if requested. If you are related to an individual I have created a memorial for (or manage) please send me a message, I am quite liberal with transfers to family members.

If any memorial I have created currently lacks details or a photo that is only temporary and indicates I have created it from trans. and is on schedule to be further developed/linked/photographed.

There appears to be two "schools" of thought among the major contributors here at Find-A-Grave.

The first is to create a basic memorial for an individual in order for others to know just where that elusive relative/friend/acquaintance is buried. Exposure is immense and in that respect there is no other website quite like this one.

The second school of thought is to take this amazing resource and utilize all of the wonderful tools it offers to us as genealogists. Detailed bios, photographs, documents and the most beneficial of all, interlinking relations, both by the relationship edit option or by inserting html code linking to another memorial directly.

As a genealogist I wholeheartedly subscribe to the latter, and as a result have worked very hard traveling extensively in my local area of New England photographing and memorializing those buried in cemeteries which do not have a readily available published trans.

I will gladly transfer memorials out of guidelines to relatives, I may however wish to fully develop the memorial first to make sure details are not lacking. In this case perhaps after a day or two. In the case of more recent deaths (after 1900) you may expect a transfer as soon as I am aware of the request.

Burial Unknown memorials: I will not link to a memorial where the final disposition is unknown, the Burial Unknown option was set up by FAG originally for recent burials with the provision they be removed after 30 days (see FAG Guidelines) this quickly became a way for people to build a family tree or collect a specific geographic or surname group.

Likewise a memorial created in an unverified cemetery (often said here to be "plopped") defeats the integrity and purpose of this website and belittles the hard work of it's volunteers. I will need to verify any newly created memorial I am asked to link to before approving the edit.

Find-A-Grave's primary objective has always been to document the final disposition of an individual. Long standing Burial Unknown memorials serve only to cause confusion and negativity here.

The first memorial created in the correct cemetery (NOT as a burial unknown memorial) is the permanent memorial. Date of creation is not considered when comparing a memorial created correctly, in a verified cemetery, and one created as "burial unknown".

**When notified FAG will always remove/merge a burial unknown memorial moved into a cemetery where a grave has been verified.

recent examples:

1. Samuel Bliss

2. Noah Thomas

My transfer policy is much more liberal than most so send a request *if you are upset that I have located the grave for a person you created a memorial for as "burial unknown"

Thanks to all the FAG photo volunteers for your hard work! You are truly what makes this website such an incredible genealogical tool.

Perez Hall
Hey James,

Regarding the message copied below, from 8/22/16, I did go out to that Hall Cemetery. Not sure if you've been there, it's in the woods and not in great shape, but none of the stones still there were for a Perez Hall. Not sure what you typically do in these situations...

Letting you know I discovered a grave for apparently the same Perez Hall as you did. Yours is #142875675. Mine is #168750250 (same town, different cemetery). I see the photo of the cemetery record you have on your version... I will soon visit that Hall Cemetery in the woods and see if there is actually a duplicate stone there. I'll let you know what I find.

Amelia Francis (Stockbridge) Gardner
I know the gravestone says she was born in 1844 but I believe it is in error. My records indicate she was born 18 February 1843 and died 11 April 1889 Hanover Ma from cancer of the womb. I don't know where the documentation is but I believe it was a copy of her death records. She would be my gr gr grandmother.
Andrew Webster Gardner
Alfred Webster, Alfred William SR, Alfred William JR, and me Alfred William Gardner 3rd. This is why my son's name is Scott LOL.
By any chance do you know the whereabouts of Andrew Webster Gardner? my records indicate he died in Weymouth but no death record or burial listed.
